Inky purple. Sexy aromas of blueberry and boysenberry compote are complimented by cinnamon and mace, along with a subtle smoky undertone. Gains weight and richness with air, picking up notes of mocha and candied flowers. I looked for tannins but failed to find them. Extremely attractive right now.

The 2008 Can Blau is a blend of Carinena, Syrah, and Garnacha from Montsant where value can still be found. Dark ruby-colored, it reveals a compelling bouquet of mineral, smoke, spice box, black cherry, and plum. Sweet and smooth-textured on the palate, this medium to full-bodied effort has excellent depth, concentration, and length. Drink it over the next 6 years.

Cherry and strawberry flavors are framed by vanilla, toast and spice notes in this surprise, alluring red. Ripe and generous, yet remains lithe and fresh. Drink now through 2014.
