Though it has mature, slightly toasty aromas, this wine also has great flavors of grapefruit, some lemon peel and a vibrant white fruit character. It is dry, with the clean, fresh acidity going right through to the finish.

92 pts. : December 15, 2002

Limpid and refined, defining the elegance and finesse you expect from good Champagne. It’s a bit on the sweet side, with a hefty dosage softening the high acidity and rounding off the peach and citrus flavors. Feels almost weightless, all the way through the young, yeasty finish.

91 pts.: Nov 30, 2016

A bright, creamy and well-knit Champagne, with a smoke-tinged, minerally underpinning and flavors of lemon meringue pie, biscuit and candied ginger. The spiced finish lingers. Drink now through 2019. 163,000 cases made.

90 pts.: 29th Jun 2016

Based on 2012 and 45% reserve wines of 2011 and a bit of 2010, the white-golden colored NV Brut Classic is very clear and elegant on the nose; it offers bright fruit aromas and fresh lemon flavors, along with herbal aromas. Light, pure and finesse-full on the palate, this is a pretty mineral and refreshing cuvée with good substance in the finish. A delicious aperitif.

90 pts. : October 15, 2003

Delicious. A light, sleek style, with intense flavors of apple, wheat and citrus played out against a vivid backdrop of acidity. Long finish. I like the finesse and harmony here. Drink now through 2005.

90 pts.: November 15, 2011

There’s an aromatic floral note to the flavors of apricot, ripe apple, smoky mineral, kumquat and lemon zest in this firm bubbly, which is fine-grained and balanced, with a lively, moderate finish. Drink now through 2015.

90 pts.: December 1, 2006

This is baseline Deutz, but still a standout. Sniff it and you sense the complexity, definition and elegance. Good, tiny bubbles stream up steadily, bringing notes of chalk, candied fruit and caramel. In the mouth, it fills out across the palate with mixed flavors that show stone fruits, caramel and oily, slightly buttery nuts. Very approachable yet complex, refined and aristocratic.

90 pts.: 12/1/2009

A finely crafted Champagne in Deutz’s signature creamy, ethereal style. It floats across the palate, bringing fresh white stone fruit, crispened with grapefruit, lime and a delicate aperitif character.

90 pts.: December 15, 2015

A minerally Champagne that marries a sleek backbone of acidity to flavors of white raspberry, roasted almond and apricot preserves. Fine and creamy, with a smoky finish. Drink now through 2018. 150,000 cases made.

90 pts.: December 1, 2008

This wine’s concentrated flavors focus on mineral richness rather than freshness, lemon pith rather than zest. Its green apple and pear fruit blends into the chalkiness, all of a piece. For wood roasted oysters.

89 pts. : December 15, 2003

Year in and year out, Deutz manages to put out a fine, eminently drinkable nonvintage brut. This one projects vanilla, pear and coconut via the bouquet, and apple, pear and cinnamon through the palate. With lively citrus afternotes, it finishes tight and sure. The acidity is appley and moves everything along.

89 pts. : October 15, 2007

This lively Champagne brims with apple and pear notes. Lacy and open, with hints of malt and honey. Has good length. Drink now.

89 pts. : November 30, 2009

A mix of honey and pencil shavings marks this tasty, elegant bubbly, which has a fine texture, yet also shows some grip, with a chalky sensation on the finish. Drink now through 2011.

89 pts.: Friday, October 7, 2016

An assertive citrus and peach-stone fruit style that has plenty of bread-dough and yeasty influence on the nose and palate. The acidity is piercing, and some red fruit flavors and smooth tannins show themselves to close things out. Drink now.

88 pts. : October 15, 2002

A vivid, almost tart style, showing bread dough, citrus and herbs matched to a medium-bodied profile. There’s a firm, chalky texture on the finish. Drink now through 2003.

88 pts.: Nov/Dec 2005

Light gold. Fresh and bright, showing toasty qualities as well as bright, fresh apple and lemon zest scents. Crisp and vigorous, with lightly yeasty flavors of buttered toast, grilled nut and ripe apple. Finishes on a firm, spicy note.

88 pts.: Nov/Dec 2002

Aromas of apple, butter, toast and spices. Juicy and intensely flavored if slightly lean, with apple and lemon peel flavors straight to the finish. Shows a bit of unabsorbed acidity and a note of green cardamom on the end.

88 pts. : November 15, 2008

Floral, apple and yeast notes are lively and fresh in this elegant Champagne, which is backed by a vibrant structure. Makes a lovely aperitif. Drink now.

88 pts. : November 30, 2006

Delicate, this lacy Champagne offers honey, peach and grapefruit flavors backed by a lively structure. There’s a chalky sensation on the finish. Drink now.

88 pts.: November 30, 2010

A fresh and floral Champange, featuring firm acidity and hints of lemon pastry, acacia blossom and spice. The moderate finish has a light chalky flavor.

88 pts. : December 1, 2004

In a flight of nonvintage Champagnes, this one stood out for its more evolved, savory flavors and creamy mouthfeel. Meaty and leathery, with elements of soy and mushroom that are balanced by citrusy acids.

88 pts.: December 31, 2010

Broad and toasty with baked fruit flavors of orange and lime, this is a simple, polished Champagne to serve with creamy dishes, like blanquette de veau. Best Buy.

: July 1, 2004

The wine that epitomizes the improvements made since Fabrice Rosset took the helm of Deutz is the Deutz brut classic NV. It offers a perfect balance between fruit, complexity and restrained acidity.

: October 1, 2007

Lovely Pinot finesse, rich, substantial, lovely finish.

: July 1, 2006

Somewhat closed hint of crisp fruit. smooth, evenly balanced, nicely proportioned, rounded finish, long in flavor. 4–7 years.

: August 1, 2005

Consistently a top scorer. It always has a relatively high proportion of reserve wine, and with extra aging this gives increased depth, richness and complexity. A delightful, creamy-textured, wonderfully moreish fizz, drinking very well.
