Moderately active, small pinpoint bubbles in the flute; rich aromas of toast, wood, apple compote with hints of grapefruit and orange; well-rounded and freshly cut apple; clean, complex with a long, balanced finish.

On the sweet side, but so nicely acidified and delicious in fruit that you hardly notice the sugar, which just gives the wine a round softness. Beautiful hazelnut, peaches-and-cream and vanilla flavors, with a tough of raspberry zest.

A nice, everyday bubbly that offers elegance at an affordable price. Chardonnay contributes crisp flavors of limes, while Pinot Noir brings deeper flavors of cherries. A lovely wine that grows in the glass.

Balance and elegance, with nutty flavors and hints of brioche; flavors of buttered wheat toast and apples; solid wine and good value.

One of the most underrated bubblies today; high-class juice; the fruit is there, the bubbles are small, the bubbly is elegant.

Crisp and lively, with aromas of green apple, cinnamon and vanilla that lead to appealing flavors of tropical fruit and spicy anise. Drink now through 2014.

Chandon’s basic brut is balanced and harmonious, with flavors of citrus, pear, raspberry and vanilla, and an engaging edge of dough and smoky oak. Basically dry, but with a sweetly ripe dosage that makes it round and creamy. Best of all, it avoids sharpness, and is smooth.

Light in style, this California bubbly is a tangy blend of grapefruit, citrus, toast and lemon-lime flavors. It’s firm and delicate, with a clean, bright, mineral finish. Tasty and of very good quality, it’s also a widely available bargain.

Rich and intense, with complex pear, ginger and spicy apple scents. Turns rich and fruity on the palate. Drink now.

Offers lively aromas of apple blossom and citrus, with layered, crisp and creamy flavors of Asian pear, spice and freshly baked bread. Drink now.

This medium-to-full-bodied sparkler has a mouthfeel that is at once gravelly and richly smooth — go figure. Granny Smith apples and granite-slate aromas play on the nose; on the palate, the same Granny Smith notes are swathed in dusty-earthy flavors. Though the back palate shows a little toast and cream, the wine’s finish is more zippy, tangy citrus than oaky.

Very pale straw with a metallic cast. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Apples, quince, bread. Hints of toasty yeast on the nose. Delicious fruity attractive palate makes for an easy drinking style. Generous and rounded without being a heavyweight.

A crisp, balanced bubbly that offers plenty of honeyed flavors of peaches, pineapples and smoky vanilla. the yeasty, doughy notes are just fine.

Lots to like in this dryish to slightly sweet brut. It has polished lime, strawberry, vanilla and yeasty flavors. The all-important texture of the bubbles is a little rough and scoury.

This blend of 57% Chardonnay, 41% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Meunier is drier than the winery’s Extra Dry Riche. It is softly textured, layered in green apple and pear, and offers a medium finish. A versatile wine for pairing, it makes a good go-to for larger gatherings.

Focused and spicy, a bright beam of cherry-tinged toasty flavors shining through the lively finish.

Good intensity, with a solid center of ripe pear, apple, spice and a hint of ginger and lemon twist. It leaves you hoping for another sip as it gains complexity and length. Drink now.

Pale yellow hue. Floral edged, lightly yeasty aromas precede a medium-bodied, cleanly-fruited palate with a subtle yeast influence. An easy drinking style.

Ripe and intense, with a floral, spicy edge to the pear and pineapple flavors. Drinks well now.

84 pts. : Web only – 2012

Soft and creamy, with floral tropical fruit aromas and modest flavors. Drink now.

: November 1, 1993

Creamy, slightly toasty elements frame a fair measure of clearly defined fruit in the well-composed, fully champenized aromas. In the mouth, the wine is round and frothy with clean, slightly creamy, mildly cherry-like flavors that are at once direct, vital and easy to taste. Sporting fine yeastiness throughout, the wine is nonetheless bright, buoyant and fruity and finishes with just the right edge of crispness.

: December 1, 1997

Light, clean and correct, this one offers mildly citric qualities with hints of sweetness in its narrow, low intensity aromas. Frothy but firm and lean on entry, the wine is crisp, clean and fairly understated.

: June, 2001

Beautiful and slightly sweet aromas of honeycomb. Full, rich mouthfeel, with bright acidity and very ripe fruit flavors in a medium finish. Chicken or light fish with butter sauce.
