Saint-Julien is a small region in Bordeaux nestled between Paulliac and Margaux. The wines there are made primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, usually blended with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Chateau Lalande has an enticing aroma of violets and dark berries. The quality of the wine shows through upon tasting, with juicy blackberries, currant, and a mild earthiness. A nice balance of weight, fruit, oak and tannins makes it a versatile wine for food pairing. This wine is definitely at its peak and ready to drink, although it could still be cellared for a couple more years. Serve with filet mignon with Béarnaise sauce and sautéed mushrooms.
