The 2004 Cyan Pago de la Calera comes from a 1.5-hectare namesake vineyard planted back in 1928 and sees 18 months in new French oak. It has a well-defined bouquet that handles the 15.5% oak well, offering scents of raspberry preserve, crushed strawberry, marmalade and camphor. The palate is full-bodied with a sweet core of plump raspberry and strawberry fruit laced with vanilla, marmalade and orange zest. The finish is grippy and missing a little refinement, although it is certainly packed full of flavor and the alcohol is not imposing. This is a well-crafted, seductive Toro red. Drink now–2020+.

Sweet on the nose but also a little green, with minty aromas of herb mixed with blueberry. It feels typically tannic and tough, with roasted blackberry and chocolate flavors. The finish is tannic, with spicy, chocolaty flavors that last for quite a while. Drink now.
