The top Côtes du Rhône, the 2007 Côtes du Rhône-Villages Les Champauvins, is a serious effort that could easily be mistaken for a Châteauneuf du Pape. Sweet black cherry fruit, seaweed wrapper, licorice, pepper, and spice aromas are followed by a wine with a broad, savory mouthfeel, sweet tannin, and a long finish. It should drink well for 4–5 years.

Racy and fresh, with a nice raspberry streak framed by spice, sweet toast and licorice notes, followed by a very juicy finish.

An amazing bargain, the 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Les Champauvins can be compared to a Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is twice the price! Enticing aromas of ground pepper, incense and sweet black cherries are followed by mouth-filling flavors of black raspberry, fig and dark plum. It possesses a lovely texture, good acidity, and ripe tannins. The finish is impressively long and sweet. Delicious to drink now or lay down for future enjoyment.
