Soft gold in color, this rye bears aromas of light spices and pepper mixed with a slight fruitiness. The body is big and full, and the palate shows a great balance of delicate rye qualities — spring flowers and light spices — playing off some deep, dark fruits. The finish is crisp and clean, with a burst of sweetness.

Deep amber, with a copper cast. Moderately full-bodied. Toffee, dried pear, smoke. Round, smooth texture. Fairly soft and lush on the palate. Powerful, balance of brown spice notes, delicate fruit and campfire embers. Elegant, engaging finish.

The first sniffings detect notes of black pepper and oak resin; aeration adds stone-dry scents to minerals, slate, and sage. The palate entry is lean, semisweet, intensely grainy, and satisfying; at midpalate the whiskey lies well on the tongue, sweet, grainy, medium plump, and spicy. A very solid rye whiskey that deserves a larger audience.
