90 pts.Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: June, 2016
The 2014 Dry Riesling, a little over 6 grams per liter of residual sugar, is the last in this issue’s mini-vertical. It shows how well the winery is doing these days in this style. A bit fuller in body than the 2013, its youth (at least) also makes it more penetrating on the finish. I had to laugh at the description of this on Wagner’s website (it’s not too “bitey”) and not just the use of the word. It’s not too bitey, but there is some bite just now. This is certainly beautifully balanced and it will calm down more, but there is very nice tension on the finish. With a mouth-coating feel and clean fruit on the end, this finishes with some tightness and demonstrates that it is rather unevolved. It could use another year or so in the cellar. It may yet be entitled to an uptick. It is a very nice wine and an even more impressive bargain, one of many from Wagner this issue.
