Critical Acclaim

VN94 Vinous Sep 2015

"The 2011 Sangioveto di Toscana wraps around the palate with striking depth and texture. Bold and racy to the core, the 2011 is a great example of the fleshy, open-knit wines that are typical of the vintage. At the same time, the 2011 has more than enough freshness to drink well for a number of years. This is a gorgeous showing from Badia a Coltibuono." (94 pts.)

WS92 Wine & Spirits April 1, 2016

"Sangioveto, an old name for sangiovese, opens with earthy aromas of mushroom and forest floor, unfolding into flavors of ripe black cherry and plum tinged with dried oregano, brown spice and orange zest. Notes of dried fruit and black tea add richness and depth to the lively flavors, with dusty tannins rounded by a year and a half in French oak barriques. Pour it with penne alla vodka." (92 pts.)

WE90 Wine Enthusiast 9/1/2015

"Big and bold, this opens with aromas of baked plum, blue flowers and sweet baking spice. The robust, chewy palate doles out fleshy black cherry, espresso, clove and licorice alongside the warmth of evident alcohol. Solid but velvety tannins support the ripe fruit flavors. Drink 2016–2021." (90 pts.)

SP90 Wine Spectator Web only – 2015

"Ample cherry and strawberry flavors are matched by savory elements of wild herbs, leather and tobacco in this firmly structured red. Still firm, but has all the components. Drink now through 2020. 300 cases made." (90 pts.)

Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
