Critical Acclaim
VN90Vinous Nov 2017
"Brilliant red. A highly fragrant bouquet evokes fresh red berries, incense and candied flowers, with a smoky oak nuance that builds in the glass. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering vibrant cherry and raspberry flavors accented by a peppery flourish. Concentrated but lively as well, showing impressive finishing cut, building spiciness and subtle, harmonious tannins." (90 pts.)
When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).
The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - April 1, 2018 From two small vineyards in the Eola Hills, this wine is all strawberry-blossom perfume when first poured, its brisk red-fruit flavors remarkably lithe and precise. The wine only gets more sumptuous with air, seamless and forward, the bergamot-scented whole-cluster spice playing a supportive role to the fruit, which feels generous, loose limbed and long.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020 Moving to the reds, the appellation 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was just about completely destemmed (2% stems) and spent 10 months in 18% new French oak. Lots of spice box, earthy forest floor, cherries, and redcurrant notes define the bouquet, and it’s medium-bodied and balanced, with good acidity and a great finish. As with everything from this estate, it’s impeccably made and high-quality. Drink it over the coming 5–7 years.VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020 The 2018 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is pretty, aromatic and super-elegant. Crushed flowers, dried cherry, mint, sage, cedar and tobacco are some of the many notes that develop in the glass. The 2018 is perfumed, light on its feet and exquisitely beautiful — all qualities that make it a terrific choice for drinking over the next handful of years.
