Critical Acclaim

VN93 Vinous Jul 2016

"Pale straw with a green tint. A gorgeous, expressive nose of lemon juice, lime skin, passionfruit and wet slate introduces this wine. The palate positively sings, with delicate flesh draped across the lively and invigorating acidity. The finish starts strong and continues to build for quite some time. This wine is a star. 58 grams per liter residual sugar." (93 pts.)

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Jun 2016

"The 2014 Riesling Reserve "No. 198 Single Clone" comes in with 59 grams per liter of residual sugar. The best of the mini-vertical this issue, it has more energy than its predecessors and its balance is more interesting. The acidity makes the fruit dance nicely over the palate. Quite delicious, it tightens considerably and shows plenty of tension on the finish as its underlying power takes over. Not quite a full-on dessert wine, but probably a bit too sweet to be a typical table wine, it tastes pretty good all on its own. Nicely concentrated and structured, this is a wine that has the potential to age gracefully. We’ll see what happens, but in the meanwhile it is worth giving it another year to settle down and integrate its sugar. This might just be entitled to an uptick when all is said and done." (91 pts.)

Finger Lakes

Officially established in 1982, the Finger Lakes region has a storied history of wine production in New York State and is recognized the world over. The deep glacially formed lakes offer sublime growing conditions thanks to the sloping hillsides and moderating effect the lakes have on the temperature of the surrounding area.

The main growing regions are centered around Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake (which each have their own AVAs) but quality wine is being made throughout the region. Riesling is the belle of the ball in the Finger Lakes (oftentimes being compared to the Rieslings of Germany) but success has been had with Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and others.

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
