Critical Acclaim

RP91+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 19th Dec 2019

"Darker and plummier than the 2016, Guigal’s 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape is another fine effort from this quality-conscious négociant. It’s full-bodied, rich and velvety in texture, with notes of cola, dark chocolate and prune plums that linger on the silky finish." (91–93 pts.)

JD92+ Jeb Dunnuck 12/12/2019

"Not yet bottled, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is cut from the same cloth as the 2016 yet has a slightly more sunny, sexy style. Kirsch, peppery garrigue, and lavender notes all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied, has tons of character, ripe tannins, and the balance to evolve for over a decade." (92–94 pts.)

SP91 Wine Spectator Nov 15, 2021

"Show a slightly old school persona, with lots of singed alder, garrigue and leather accents leading the way, while the core of red currant and bitter cherry fruit follows from behind. The long finish has nice grain, with dried fruit and herb notes partnering until the end. Drink now through 2030. 18,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported." (91 pts.)

WE94 Wine Enthusiast 11/1/2021

"Matured two years in oak foudres, this full-bodied blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah balances piercing black cherry and cassis flavors against a firm structure of fine, penetrating tannins and bright acidity. Richly concentrated yet pristine in fruit, it finishes on a sultry, smoky streak of crushed stone and charred anise. Approachable in youth but likely to improve through 2030 and hold longer still." (94 pts.)

JS92 JamesSuckling.com Friday, October 11, 2019

"The inaugural vintage of this wine, it has a very fresh, melon and sliced-pear nose with subtle, stony notes. The palate is smooth, sleek and fleshy with attractive peach flavors and a fresh, crisp feel to the gently nutty finish. Drink or hold." (92 pts.)

Rhone

France's picturesque Rhone Valley produces wines just as beautiful as its landscapes. Located in Southern France, the Rhone is divided into two distinct sub-regions, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone. In the Northern Rhone, you'll find red wines produced predominantly with the Syrah grape, which oftentimes take a few years to mature before reaching their peak. Meanwhile, there are a wide array of red grapes used to produce wines in the Southern Rhone, including Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre (which together produce a blend known as GSM). The most famous red wine coming out of the Southern Rhone is the red blend, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
