"The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is a total knock-out. Sumptuous and enveloping, but with plenty of structure to support it all, the 2017 captures all the best elements of the house style. Succulent black cherry, worn-in leather, smoke, licorice and espresso all build in the glass as the 2017 shows off its curves. More than anything else, the 2017 is a wine of tremendous pleasure." "The Fèlsina 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga (with 70,000 bottles made) is a rich and sultry expression of pure Sangiovese with dark fruit intensity and a beautiful contouring of spice, leather and tar. This wine hits the intensity nail on the head without the overt over-ripeness that we saw in many of its peers from this hot and dry vintage. I would not recommend an especially long drinking window, but I can enthusiastically recommend this authentic taste of Chianti Classico for near or medium-term drinking. The Riserva ages in large Slavonian oak casks for 12 months." (91 pts.)
There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.
Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.
Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2019 The 2016 Primamateria, the estate’s Sangiovese/Merlot blend, is another exceptional wine in this range. Raspberry jam, spice, new leather, dried flowers and mocha lend striking aromatic nuance. The 2016 is sleek, ripe and exceptionally polished, not to mention flat out delicious.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2019 This is pure, but also velvety and vibrant, featuring cherry, black currant, tar, stony and iron notes. Firm and dense on the finish, with a juicy finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,400 cases made, 1,100 cases imported.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2019 Fragrant purple-flower, plum and baking-spice aromas lead the way. The linear palate shows finesse and energy, offering Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, tobacco and cinnamon framed in elegant fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Hold for even more complexity. Drink through 2028.JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019 This is placed very much in blue and dark-fruit territory, featuring an array of dark plums, mulberries and morello cherries. Full-bodied, round and juicy. With a little more freshness and verve this would score more highly. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.
