Critical Acclaim

WE93 Wine Enthusiast 2/1/2015

"Pleasantly pungent in ripe damson plum, this Pinot has lovely acidity, giving it a spicy mouthfeel around firmly present tannins. Full-bodied midpalate, the wine mellows through to the finish, ending in juicy fruit and earth." (93 pts.)

RP89 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Dec 2014

"The 2012 Pinot Noir Sea Slopes Fort Ross Vineyard comes from multiple clones, including Calera, Pommard, Swan and Dijon clones 115 and 777. Again, little new oak was used, about 4%, and the wine was aged ten months in neutral French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a relatively large cuvée of 2,038 cases. A lot of cranberry, pomegranate and the red fruit spectrum of Pinot Noir aromas and flavors are present in this medium-bodied, crisp, very Burgundian and cool-climate Pinot. The wine shows excellent texture and a good, long finish. It’s still youthful and may put on more weight. It’s not by any means a big wine. Drink now–2020." (89 pts.)

SP88 Wine Spectator Web only – 2014

"Well done in a rich, graceful style, with a supple texture underneath the raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and spice flavors. Ends with ripe, fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2021. 2,038 cases made." (88 pts.)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
