Critical Acclaim

RP93 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 27th Aug 2015

"Lutum’s 2013 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard offers lots of sous bois, mushroom and damp earth characteristics to go with an impressive amount of sweet currant and cherry-like Pinot Noir fruit that continues to come more and more to the forefront with time in the glass. Beautifully textured, seamless and pure, it’s medium to full-bodied, has no hard edges and terrific intensity and length. It should benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10–12 years of overall longevity." (93 pts.)

VN93 Vinous Aug 2015

"The 2013 Pinot Noir Durell Vineyard is gorgeous. Here the flavors are bold and juicy throughout. Sweet red cherries, pomegranate and plum notes abound. Racy and flamboyant, the 2013 possesses terrific mid-palate depth and a creamy, voluptuous finish that is impossible to resist, with hints of smoke and earthiness that add elements of darkness. This is a fabulous showing from Gavin Chanin." (93 pts.)

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
