Wine Grapes

Primary Grape: Pinot Noir | All Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir

From the Producer

Anyway you look at it, our Pinot Noir is the pinnacle of what we at Mt. Beautiful are all about. Subtlety is the secret inside this wine. It begins with sophisticated fragrances of brambles and violets while showcasing an elegantly medium weight palate featuring ripe blackberry fruit, earthiness and subtle tannins. As the personal favorite of our owner David Teece, it’s incredibly important for our Pinot Noir to showcase the best aspects of the varietal, therefore it is grown in the highest elevation in the vineyard.

Critical Acclaim

VN87 Vinous May 2016

"Pale-medium red. Plum and black cherry fruit aromas are joined by strong musky underbrush and herbs. Supple and spicy, showing decent intensity but only moderate sweetness of fruit. Just a touch of dryness on the back end. Not bad." (87 pts.)

South Island

The picturesque South Island of New Zealand is home to five renowned wine regions, each with a number of quality producers. Marlborough is famous for producing some of New Zealand's crisp and zesty Sauvignon Blancs, while Central Otago is home to some terrific Pinot Noirs. You'll also find great wines in the other regions: Canterbury, Nelson, and Waipara Valley.

New Zealand

From the crisp acidity of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to the bold complexity of Central Otago’s Pinot Noirs, New Zealand wine is as unmistakable as it is unapologetic. Still a relative newcomer to the wine industry after making a splash in the global market in the late 1970’s, New Zealand has wasted no time in carving out a name for themselves and their distinctive wines.

Sauvignon Blanc is New Zealand’s crown jewel, and thus, the most exported wine. The ferocious acidity and stark notes of grapefruit, gooseberry, and cut grass lead to an unforgettable wine drinking experience.

Other grapes of note in New Zealand include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also being grown for Bordeaux-style blends in the Hawke’s Bay region as well.
