These crimson-colored wines make friends easily at the table too with dishes as diverse as hard cheeses, pasta, pizza, or even a steak from the grill. Whether it be red checkered tablecloth or white tablecloth, these wines are extremely versatile and are sure to impress family or your guests.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is a total knock-out. Sumptuous and enveloping, but with plenty of structure to support it all, the 2017 captures all the best elements of the house style. Succulent black cherry, worn-in leather, smoke, licorice and espresso all build in the glass as the 2017 shows off its curves. More than anything else, the 2017 is a wine of tremendous pleasure.

The Fèlsina 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga (with 70,000 bottles made) is a rich and sultry expression of pure Sangiovese with dark fruit intensity and a beautiful contouring of spice, leather and tar. This wine hits the intensity nail on the head without the overt over-ripeness that we saw in many of its peers from this hot and dry vintage. I would not recommend an especially long drinking window, but I can enthusiastically recommend this authentic taste of Chianti Classico for near or medium-term drinking. The Riserva ages in large Slavonian oak casks for 12 months.

JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/28/2023
The 2020 Chianti Classico is ripe with juicy red and black berry fruit, offering notes of candied black raspberry, crushed violet, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and savory, with tart black cherry, orange oil, fine tannins, and dusty earth, it has a driving persistent energy through the mid-palate and is harmonious in its balance between its more youthful primary fruit and light savory touch throughout. Drink 2023–2033. (Audrey Frick)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti Classico is striking. Bright, punchy and vibrant, the 2020 possesses terrific energy from start to finish. Sweet red-fleshed fruit, cedar, blood orange, spice and incense are front and center. The 2020 screams with character. Once again, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi has crafted an exceptional Chianti Classico that punches well above its weight. (Antonio Galloni)

Attractive aromas of ripe cherries, dried strawberries, dried orange peel, spices and crushed stones, following through to a medium to full body with compact tannins that are firm and finely grained. Smooth and textured with vivid fruit underneath and a lingering finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Sep 2023
In the bottle with the black label, the organic 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva offers ripe fruit with measured intensity that never feels heavy or overdone. Achieving this level of balance is not easy in a hot growing season such as this. This wine is characterized by an especially linear and direct personality that pushes it over the palate with good momentum. An ambitious 60,000 bottles were released. (Monica Larner)

The 2019 Chianti Classico La Misse di Candialle is packed with red/purplish fruit, spice, rose petal and blood orange. Translucent and super-expressive, the 2019 is another winner in this range from Candialle. Here, too, the purity of the flavors is magnificent.

Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 39576

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022
Crushed stones with black cherries and fresh flowers. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Still so young and fruity with wonderful energy. Give it another two or three years, if you can bear to wait.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
The Riservas from across the appellation are showing very well in 2019. This wine is no exception. The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva (which is a blend of 90% Sangiovese with Canaiolo and Colorino aged in different-sized oak barrels for up to 18 months) offers pretty richness and concentration. The wine’s ample volume is fleshed out with dark fruit, spice and blue flower. It should be fun to try this wine in five years’ time, when it loses its baby fat. Happily, production is very generous, with 200,000 bottles made. (Monica Larner)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, incense, tobacco, menthol, licorice, scorched earth and savory undertones all take shape in the glass. There’s real intensity here, not to mention tons of character. There are many beautiful wines in this range, but for the money, it is pretty hard to beat this Riserva. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
A sleek, tightly wound red, with black cherry and blackberry fruit shaded by iron, herbs and tobacco. Linear in profile and vibrant, with a long, slightly chewy finish. Needs a year or two. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Best from 2024 through 2037. 26,000 cases made, 17,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Lots of sour-cherry and citrus aromas follow through to a medium body with light tannins and a clean, bright finish. Drink now.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A vibrant, well-defined red, with cherry, raspberry, floral and mineral flavors fused to a linear profile and firm structure. A bit austere still, yet the lasting impression is ripe fruit. Drink now through 2028. 3,750 cases made, 1,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/28/2023
As with the other two wines presented from Gagliole, the 2020 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is entirely produced from Sangiovese. It is the most lifted and red-fruited of the three wines, and has aromas of candied strawberry, raspberry, crushed roses, and licorice. It is medium bodied and approachable, with silky tannins, juicy red berries, and pleasant refreshment without austerity. This is a polished and altogether easy-drinking style to enjoy over the next 5–7 years. (Audrey Frick)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is a juicy, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next handful of years, while the fruit remains vibrant. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, spice and leather lend lovely exuberance. This succulent Chianti Classico is sure to be a crowd pleaser. (Antonio Galloni)
