Lively when first poured, this charming blend of chardonnay and pinot noir settles down nicely in the glass, with scents of vanillin and golden apple. The flavors start off rich but tense up in the middle, finishing with a lemony briskness.
    BTI8888 pts. - Beverage Testing Institute - April 1, 2001
Full yellow hue. Ripe peach skin aromas have a nice yeasty accent. Pin-point bubbles and intensely zesty fruit flavors play out on a medium-bodied palate with a creamy, tart fruit finish. Well-made and refreshing.
    WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2001
Lime, green herb earth and burnt-matchstick aromas open to a toasty, nutty palate with pear, gingersnap and cracker flavors. Medium-weight, with a steady bead and soft mousse. Finishes long, with a citrus-mineral tang. This is complex, tasty bubbly from an unusual address.

  6. Mumm Napa Brut Prestige
    Mumm Napa Brut Prestige

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#31336

    WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 1993
Here is a full-flavored, aggressively effervescent sparkler that fills the mouth. A slight copper tint in the wine’s appearance is evidence that it was made from a high percentage of black grapes, specifically pinot noir. Its aroma is reminiscent of freshly baked biscuits — the yeast-produced flavors are then balanced by freshness in the mouth. Quite tart at the full finish, with a touch of cherry flavor from the pinot noir. Carneros figures prominently in Mumm’s cuvées. Winemaker Greg Fowler aims for freshness with this wine, and he gets it.
    BD9292 pts. - Beverage Dynamics - Nov/Dec 2006
Toast and yeast with a very light lemon, peach mid-palate; a pleasant mouthfeel flowing to a long finish.
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 1997
Has a real lemony edge, almost too tart. It’s a bit disjointed but remains refreshing and bright. Clean finish.
    WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2001
Just the faintest rosy tinge shows in the glass of this round and appley sparkler. There’s a definite Golden Delicious quality to the aromas and flavors, with an earthy edge providing interest and complexity. Finishes dry, with decent length.

  7. Scharffenberger Brut Excellence
    Scharffenberger Brut Excellence

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#18851

    WS8989 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 1993
Pretty and clear, this Brut balances complex lemon and toast with a slight caramel character on the nose. The wine really shines on the palate, where rich berry character comes through. Quite dry, with persistent flavors. John Scharffenberger has taken this winery a long way with the infusion of capital from the French firm of Lanson/Pommery. He continues his strong showing in the Competition with three silver medals this year.
    WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/1995
Medium light body. Medium acid and fruit. Honey, flowers, lemons, herbs. Very fine and elegant, nicely balanced, with a mouth- watering citrus twist. Quite similar to French Champagne.
    BD8888 pts. - Beverage Dynamics - May/Jun 1997
Very active, pinpoint bubbles; toast and wood dominate the nose; flavors of toast, butter and fresh apples; citrus notes on a long, balanced close; clean; attractive value.
    SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 1996
Strikes a nice balance of ripe pear, spice, apple and creamy vanilla flavors. Elegant and spicy on the finish.
