  2. Krug Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne
    Krug Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#46953

    WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2001
Henri Krug says he thinks about this blend as a composer would think about a symphony, with more that 50 reserve wines serving as his orchestra. It would sound like a trite analogy if the music weren’t there in the glass. In fact, it may be the most useful way to think about this sumptuous Champagne as you taste its layers of flavor, its complexity that can’t be limited to spice or game or white chocolate, its broad flavors that last for minutes. The details keep enlisting the palate in a drive toward the sum, toward a completion of the flavor, the tiny, persistent bead adding to the harmonic intensity. So what if you’re tone deaf: Simply drink the wine. The freshness is brilliant, the depth of flavor sublime.
    ST9595 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2000
Deep, slightly exotic aromas of orange peel, smoked nuts, nutmeg and ginger. Shows particularly tiny bubbles yet the mousse is rather gentle. Extraordinarily silky and thick in the mouth, but strong acids give this great Champagne a very strong backbone for aging. In fact, the current release of this wine should really be cellared for another few years. Creamy note of hazelnut. A remarkably sophisticated, full but dry and penetrating Champagne that finishes with explosive, ever-mounting flavors.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2005
Oddly, the most consistent Krug wine I have been tasting lately is their non-vintage Brut Grand Cuvée, a big, boldly styled Champagne with smoky, earthy, pear, apple, and spicy aromas as well as flavors, loads of effervescence, and fine body and depth.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/1995
Nonvintage Champagne National Champion. Mild straw. Medium full body. Medium acid and fruit. Nuts, bread, biscuits. Impressively mature, with moderate depth and richness. Still retaining some tightness of youth, however, with crisp acids enlivening fruit nicely.
    SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 1998
A mature, subtly flavored brut that invites you in with mellow aromas and flavors, coats the mouth with a rich effervescence and keeps your interest through the tangy aftertaste. Drink now through 2000.

  3. Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle
    Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle

    NV / 750 ml. | Item#37089

    ST9595 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2002
The new release of this wine is a blend of the ’88, ’90 and ’93 vintages. Very fine, strong mousse. Knockout, musky nose combines orange pith, honeysuckle, spices and chalk. Offers nearly painful intensity of lemon and wet stone flavor without any excess weight. Dense, extremely concentrated material is leavened by brilliant acidity. Wonderfully chewy and sappy in the middle palate and on the extremely long finish. It’s hard top get this out of your mouth! Still, the wine’s finishing austerity suggests that it’s nowhere near its peak today. A great value in tête de cuvée Champagne.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/15/2002
From the first sniff you know this is a refined and arrestingly complex wine, with a bouquet of subtly entwined layers mixing ripe fruits, mineral, leesy-cheesy accents, vanilla and even a bit of metal in the steely center. Three-dimensional flavors and a wonderful lightness on the palate make for an exceptional bottle.
    WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2003
Deep green-gold with tiny bubbles, this multi-vintage blend contrasts freshness and oxidative elements. The scent is complex and heady, the flavor clean and sophisticated. Fine effervescence in the mouth cuts the richness and keeps it lively, light to the touch, almost transparent. Match the heady richness to roasted sweetbreads.
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2003
High-toned ginger and citrus notes combine with warm baking bread and vanilla accents in this vivid, elegant Champagne. Distinctive, with a lingering, smoky, grainy aftertaste. Needs food or meditation. Drink now through 2006.

  4. Salon Le Mesnil
    Salon Le Mesnil

    Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
    2006 / 750 ml. | Item#40893

    WE100100 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2017
This new release from a great vintage for Chardonnay in Champagne is a perfect blanc de blancs, showing a wealth of intensity from the crisp, chalky, mineral tones to the perfumed apple notes. The aromas hint at developing toastiness that adds depth and complexity. The wine is still young and it will age for years. Drink from 2020.
    JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, January 7, 2018
No doubting the pedigree or provenance, this opens with wet chalk and oyster shell notes, and there are aromas of dried yellow flowers and white mushrooms, white chocolate and lemon citrus as well as a refined array of fresh pastry. The palate has power with ripe lemon-drenched peach fruits. This is generous and gives plenty for Salon at this young stage with really succulent fruit. Builds white almond biscuit and toasted spices through the finish. Drink now.
    VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2017
The 2006 Salon is a very rich wine, almost uncharacteristically so. Deep and exotic the 2006 exudes richness in all of its dimensions, with myriad inflections of sumptuous fruit that fill out its ample, large-scaled frame. Today, the 2006 is surprisingly accessible for a young Salon, but it needs time to shed some baby fat. At times, the 2006 recalls the 2002, but it appears to have more phenolic intensity and overall structure. Even with all of its flamboyance and pure volume, the 2006 retains quite a bit of energy and freshness. I imagine it will be a fascinating, utterly compelling Champagne to follow over the next several decades.
    RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2017
The 2006 Salon Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut has a shining silver-golden color, the bubbles are tiny and enormously fine — they probably wouldn’t stop rising from the bottom of the glass if you left the wine in it instead of drinking it. On the nose, there is a fascinating, pure and fresh bouquet with acacia, chalk, incense and concentrated lemon flavors. The 2006 is mouthfilling, round and elegant on the palate; it is dense and tight but also fresh and cleansing, provided with great finesse, mineral complexity, length and structure. The finish is clear and aromatic, round and well balanced, slightly creamy, very intense, greatly finessed and truly elegant, with stimulating salinity in the aftertaste.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2017
The creamy mousse of this graceful Champagne caresses the palate like cashmere, carrying a beautiful range of glazed nectarine, chopped almond, pastry and candied ginger flavors framed by vivid acidity. Seamless, with a long, lasting finish accented by minerally chalk and saline notes. Drink now through 2031. 1,000 cases imported.
