Burgers & Beaujolais

Burgers & Beaujolais | WineTransit.com

Labor Day is right around the corner which means plenty of juicy burgers will be flaming up on grills everywhere. One of our favorite pairings with this holiday staple is Beaujolais made from the Gamay grape. It can range from light and fruity to full-bodied and structured, but either expression compliments savory charred beef flavors perfectly (works equally well with turkey burgers).

Scorcher outside? No worries, you can opt to serve lighter-styled Beaujolais with a slight chill to accentuate the freshness of the wine. Check out these great options or stop in to see our full selection!

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#49579

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th May 2020
Inviting aromas of black cherries, blueberries and licorice introduce the 2019 Beaujolais-Villages Le Perréon, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with a deep core of succulent fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. As usual, this flavorful, beautifully made red from the Bererd brothers belongs on any short list of France’s best-value bistrot wines.

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th May 2020
From 50-year-old vines growing in stony, sandy soils, the 2019 Régnié Vallières bursts with aromas of cherries, raspberries and blackberries, complemented by subtle hints of potpourri and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it’s velvety and succulent, with an ample core of beautifully pure fruit that’s girdled by melting tannins and lively acids. This has turned out especially well this year.

Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Powerful, mineral-accented red and blue fruit scents, along with suave floral and exotic spice flourishes. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, offering bitter cherry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors and lavender and black tea notes that build with aeration. Closes with strong, incisive thrust, building tannins and impressive persistence, leaving sappy berry and floral notes behind.

  9. Julien Sunier Fleurie

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#50826

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2019
Brilliant magenta. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red berries, cherry preserves, candied violet and exotic spices, along with a vibrant mineral nuance that expands with air. Stains the palate with sweet, penetrating raspberry, cherry, mulberry and floral pastille flavors that display a suave blend of power and delicacy. The spicy note comes back on an extremely long, floral-dominated finish that’s given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th May 2020
The 2018 Fleurie has turned out beautifully, offering up aromas of raspberries, cloves, violets and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple palate that’s pure and succulent, with powdery tannins and a bright, mineral finish. This is the first Fleurie that Sunier has produced from lower lying lieux-dits around the village, having ceded his steeper, higher-altitude holdings to David Chapel.

Bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries and roses, the Maison Jean Loron has enjoyed considerable success with their 2018 Fleurie Château de Fleurie. Medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, with fine tannins, good concentration at the core and bright acids, it’s keenly priced and worth seeking out.

  14. Guy Breton Régnié

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#51782

    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2019
Shimmering, youthful purple. Mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry aromas are underscored by a spicy element that builds as the wine opens up. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors along with complicating suggestions of licorice and candied violet. The spice and floral notes build steadily through an impressively long, smooth finish, which is framed by harmonious tannins that fold slowly into the wine’s intense fruit. Many of these vines are over a century old now.
    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
Aromas of cherries, raspberries, fresh herbs and licorice introduce the 2018 Régnié, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegant wine that’s open-knit and charming, with melting tannins and succulent acids. It spent six months in used wooden barrels. It’s only 12.5% alcohol even in this ripe vintage.
