Guy Breton Régnié

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 51782

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2019
Shimmering, youthful purple. Mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry aromas are underscored by a spicy element that builds as the wine opens up. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors along with complicating suggestions of licorice and candied violet. The spice and floral notes build steadily through an impressively long, smooth finish, which is framed by harmonious tannins that fold slowly into the wine’s intense fruit. Many of these vines are over a century old now.

Aromas of cherries, raspberries, fresh herbs and licorice introduce the 2018 Régnié, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegant wine that’s open-knit and charming, with melting tannins and succulent acids. It spent six months in used wooden barrels. It’s only 12.5% alcohol even in this ripe vintage.

The 2019 Fleurie Griffe du Marquis is also particularly successful this year, offering up aromas of wild berries, rose petals, orange rind, licorice and sweet soil tones framed by a deftly judged patina from its time in barrel. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s seamless and elegant, concluding with a long, violet-inflected finish. (William Kelley)

This is a good, hearty and muscular Beaujolais that would pair with grilled vegetables and meats. This wine has a nose of black plum, rosehip, strawberry and blossom. On the palate the wine is firm with red and black fruit predominating. (Reggie Solomon)

Burgers & Beaujolais | WineTransit.com

Labor Day is right around the corner which means plenty of juicy burgers will be flaming up on grills everywhere. One of our favorite pairings with this holiday staple is Beaujolais made from the Gamay grape. It can range from light and fruity to full-bodied and structured, but either expression compliments savory charred beef flavors perfectly (works equally well with turkey burgers).

Scorcher outside? No worries, you can opt to serve lighter-styled Beaujolais with a slight chill to accentuate the freshness of the wine. Check out these great options or stop in to see our full selection!
