A very fresh and composed chardonnay that offers aromas of lemon, lightly spiced pear pastry and peach. The intense and fresh palate holds a line of juicy peach and pear flavors in a smoothly enriched, focused style. Drink now. Screw cap.

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 28575

The Barossa has the ability to convey a sense of place, dirt and air in the glass. The trick is to not get in the way—a cooper does not terroir make. Despite not being the dominant region in this blend (for specificity: McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway and Clare Valley), the Barossa makes a potent contribution. Here, in the 2020 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz, the concentrated, dry and warm vintage is on show and provides a splay of earthy, dense fruit, stretched over a framework of savory tannin. Despite Penfolds’s reputation for big tannins/big oak, the fruit here overpowers both and streams out over the long finish. The heart of Barossa is here. Very good. Will get better. (Erin Larkin)

Ripe and generous, but the aromatics take this to the next level, with notes of cardamom, paprika and dried rose petal, plus touches of candied violet and cocoa powder, to complement the core of fleshy blackberry, black cherry and cassis. The tannins are dense but velvety, and this finishes with warm chocolaty notes. Drink now through 2035. 9,287 cases imported. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

A homage to warmer-region, South Australian shiraz, this has a rich and smooth delivery of ripe blackberries and red-to-dark plums on the nose. The wine has taken its 12 months in American oak (16% new) well and truly in its stride. Plush and suave mouth-feel here, this is effortless and a style that sits right in the Penfolds sweet spot. A blend of McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway and Clare Valley. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Opaque ruby. Oak-spiced cherry, blackberry and mocha aromas, along with coconut, licorice and cracked pepper accents. Deep and weighty on the palate, offering intense black and blue fruit, mocha and oak spice flavors that show an appealing sweetness but are slow to open. In a distinctly powerful style, delivering youthfully chewy tannins and a long, chewy finish that echoes the licorice and dark berry notes. (Josh Raynolds)

An elegant version, with firm earthy notes to the star anise, green cardamom and cigar box spiciness, backed by a touch of Dutch cocoa powder. JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
This is a bright, youthful cabernet with aromas of plums, redcurrants, tobacco and earth. Picked early for freshness. Medium-bodied with little oak impact, a red-plum core and a juicy, drinkable feel. Drink now. Screw cap.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
This is a rich, somewhat oak-forward vintage of Phoenix. The plush blackberry, mint and peppery spice is overlain by the vanilla-chocolate barrel influence. Tannins are powerful but fine and spice laden, adding gravitas to an otherwise easy-drinking, tangy Cab with regional and varietal expression. (Christina Pickard)

Walsh & Sons Roi Cabernet Sauvignon

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 57051

WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2021
Small-batch Margaret River producers Ryan Walsh and Freya Hohnen have really upped their red game in recent years. From the family’s Osmington vineyard, Roi celebrates all that makes Margs famous for Cabernet. Give it time to open but once it does, it offers boundless flavor, from plum and raspberry fruit to very dark chocolate, tobacco leaf, beetroot, iodine and potpourri. There’s a vibrancy to the palate that’s rarely found in powerful Aussie Cabs. It offers a lovely juxtaposition of silky-fresh fruit and powdery, chiseled tannins, with savory herbs flowing to the finish. Drink now with protein or ideally after a few more years in bottle until 2041. (Christina Pickard)
