    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#39814

    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 11, 2018
This is fragrant and floral with dark berries on the nose. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh, clean finish. A driven and linear Chianti Classico. The backbone of fresh acidity gives this focus. Drink now or hold.
    RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2018
This is an excellent vintage in Chianti Classico that shows especially well in the simple, more accessible wines such as this. The 2016 Chianti Classico Berardenga delivers the power and density of its territory. The southern side of the appellation often shows the richest expressions of Sangiovese. This wine opens to sweet aromas of dark fruit, cherry and plum. The wine shows a slightly savory side as well with spice and dried terracotta that recalls the gray gravel soils of the region. Bay leaf, cola and chopped mint appear as subtle background notes. Some 260,000 bottles were made.
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2018
A smoky, sweet, herb-, cherry- and currant-laced red, with dusty tannins adding support. Starts out rich, turning lean and slightly austere on the long finish of tea and sweet smoke. Best from 2020 through 2033. 21,666 cases made.

Rich and lively, this exudes cherry, strawberry, floral and woodsy aromas and flavors. Firm yet nicely proportioned, with a long, fruit- and tobacco-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2036. 50,000 cases made, 20,000 cases imported.

  7. Il Grigio da San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#13075

    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Sep 2019
The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio is a beautiful wine with an inky dark appearance and softly contoured aromas of ripe cherry and dried blackberry. There is plenty of spice, tar and sweet tobacco to smooth over that beautiful fruit intensity; this is the sort of Chianti Classico you’d open for a marinated ribeye on the grill. The wine is compact and tight in the mouth. With 260,000 bottles made, Il Grigio is one of Italy’s ultimate value reds.
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
A very pretty, refined red with ultra-fine tannins, vivid fruit of crushed berries and tar, which all follow through to a medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Structured. So you can be patient; drink or hold.

  8. Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#49462

    JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 27, 2020
A red with plenty of ripe fruit, such as berries and cherries with some fresh-herb and lemon undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright fruit and fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia is an immensely rewarding, inviting wine. Juicy and racy, with no hard edges, the Riserva captures the allure of this warm, dry year. There is plenty to like in the 2017, starting with its depth and volume, I won’t be surprised if the Riserva turns out to be even better than this note suggests. Sweet red fruit, cedar and blood orange give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity and lift.
    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2020
Aromas of blue flower, spiced plum, new leather and sunbaked earth form the inviting nose on this pure Sangiovese. Made with organically farmed grapes, the smooth, savory palate doles out fleshy black cherry, baking spice and chopped mint alongside velvety tannins that give it a polished texture. Drink through 2025.
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Mar 2021
If you have a platter of fatty porchetta and are looking for a worthy Tuscan wine for that party, look no further. Packaged in a black label, the Volpaia 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia (made with organic fruit) does a great job of showing purity and freshness in what was a challenging vintage for sure. This Riserva reveals delineated tones of cherry and dark berry with crushed limestone, blue flowers and some of the wild herbs and bramble that I often recognize in wines from this corner of Tuscany. I happily recommend it to all Sangiovese enthusiasts.

  9. Castello d’Albola Santa Caterina

    Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#52553

    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2019
Top notes of berry and dark flowers are underscored by earth, stone and tobacco flavors in this red, which is vibrant and elegant despite the dense structure, yet it’s the vibrant acidity that defines this overall. Shows terrific length. Best from 2022 through 2036. 2,000 cases made, 800 cases imported.
    JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 11, 2018
This is a good example of a Gran Selezione where the fruit is the main attraction as opposed to the wood. It falls into red territory, which includes dried red plums, cranberries, dried nutmeg and rose petals. Full-bodied and rather Burgundian, if the comparison is permitted. Fine, velvety tannins, zesty acidity and a long, very structured finish. Drink now or hold.
