  1. Colle Bereto Chianti Classico

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#53043

    SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2020
Aromas of blood, iron and raw beef lead off, followed by flavors of cherry, plum and leather. Rich and harmonious, with a dense underlying structure and terrific length. Approachable now, but this should evolve well over the next few decades. Drink now through 2040. 3,500 cases made, 2,800 cases imported.
    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
Lots of dried peppers here, as well as earth, dried plums and spices. Firm and tangy on the medium-bodied palate, but quite succulent on the finish. Lemon-zest aftertaste. Drink now.

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#51892

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 29, 2020
Toffee, dried mint, singed orange peel and iron accents waft from the glass of this full-bodied version. On the palate this is less forthcoming, with flavors of crushed black cherry, melted licorice and espresso cream tightly knit to dense, fine-grained tannins. Let this mouthwatering red shine with decanting or short-term cellaring. Best from 2022 through 2032. 2,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

  3. Benanti Etna Rosso

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#43678

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Oct 2019
The 2017 Etna Rosso (made with 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio) offers a very smoky and ashy bouquet that tells you, without any doubt, that this is a wine from the mighty Etna volcano. Rose petal and light berry aromas blur and soften the lines of those pretty mineral notes that are so strong at the beginning. Blue violets and blueberries are delicate accents that fill out the close. This vintage really pulls it all together nicely, a great pairing for pappardelle with wild chanterelle mushrooms. With 70,000 bottles made, this is an accessible wine offered at a great value.
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 1/1/2020
Smooth and bright, this boasts an earthy elegance, opening with aromas of wild berry, blue flower and Mediterranean herb that interlace with earthy whiffs of leather and game. The juicy, linear palate offers crushed red cherry, orange zest, star anise and white pepper alongside lithe tannins and lively acidity. It closes on a saline note. Drink through 2027.

    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2019
A well of dark cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit makes this red sumptuous and inviting. Fresh earth, thyme and rosemary accents add depth. A mineral element emerges on the long finish. Shows fine balance overall. Merlot, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Syrah. Drink now through 2032. 7,000 cases made, 1,500 cases imported.
    JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
A delicious red that shows red plums, brambleberries, undergrowth, cedar and freshly cut herbs. Medium to full body, delightful, juicy tannins and a tangy, medium-long finish. A blend with equal measures of merlot, sangiovese, syrah and petit verdot. Drink now or hold.

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#47179

    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 17, 2020
Cooked lemons with pumice and ash undertones on the nose follow through to a medium body with lovely fruit and a tangy finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
    VN8686 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2019 Soave Classico Otto is very pretty, showing sweet florals and apricot offset by lime zest. It’s silky in feel, as oily textures are washed clean by brisk acids, leaving notes of citrus-tinged green apple and spice.

  6. Sella & Mosca Cannonau de Sardegna Riserva

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#25953

    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva is a very pretty yet understated effort that slowly comes to life in the glass with a display of fresh roses, cardamom and wild strawberries. This is silky and cool-toned with a pure display of mineral-tinged red and blue fruits, gaining an inner sweetness toward the close. Round tannins mix with residual acids to create a push and pull of tension through the finale, as this tapers off to a flourish of violets and spice. The 2018 is a wonderfully harmonious and pure expression of Cannonau.

  7. Le Sughere di Frassinello

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#30793

    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2019
Tar, pine resin and eucalyptus aromas are countered by massive blackberry and black currant fruit in this complex, assertive red, with a generous dose of toasty oak. Beefy tannins match the fruit but sit apart for now. Try now for a ride on the wild side, or age short-term. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2020 through 2026. 11,000 cases made.
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
A bold, spicy wine that shows dried oregano, burnt blackberries, tar and incense. Despite the initial heady impression, the palate is finely woven and precise, framing grainy tannins. Nevertheless, the finish is quite robust and decadent. Drink from 2021.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2020
The 2017 Le Sughere di Frassinello is a racy, pliant wine that captures all of the natural radiance of the year. Super-ripe red fruit, hard candy, menthol, licorice, plum, espresso and dried flowers all flesh out nicely in the glass. Best of all, the 2017 will drink well right out of the gate.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#46125

    RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The Gianfranco Alessandria 2018 Barbera d’Alba is a terrific wine with just the right level of power and fruit contrasted against an elegant array of wild berry and blue flower aromas. This is a very pretty drinking wine with a beautifully mid-weight body that shows silkiness and nuance. It’s utterly charming. I love the crisp and tangy berry notes on the close. Some 15,000 bottles were released.

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2019 Chianti is fresh, fruity and absolutely delicious. This is an especially gracious, perfumed style that is best suited to near-term drinking. The 2019 is not especially complex, but it is impeccably balanced and an absolute joy to taste. Best of all, the 2019 is a tremendous value and will make an excellent house wine or by the glass pour. I love it for what it is.

A dark version, featuring intense flavors of blackberry, black cherry, spice and tar up against a wall of tannins. All the elements are here, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Terrific length. Best from 2023 through 2040. 25,000 cases made.

  11. Terre di San Leonardo

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#48325

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Feb 2021
This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère with fruit contributions from across the estate vineyard holdings. The well-priced 2016 Terre di San Leonardo is a terrific sounding board not only for the vintage and its classic lines but also for the unique San Leonardo territory and microclimate at the Adige River bed between mountain peaks. The wine opens to a medium-light appearance with dark garnet highlights. The aromas are delicate and soft, with a lot of blue flower and wild rose. A refreshing layer of forest berry and cassis come next, and the bouquet finishes up with mulling spice and smoke. There is a point of sour cherry or cranberry on the finish. This is a large production, with 95,000 bottles.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The 2016 Terre di San Leonardo Rosso is an excellent introduction to the producer and their style. The wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Carmenère from younger vines, yet the same terroir of the flagship San Leonardo. The bigger difference here is in the composition, with Merlot taking a front seat to Carmenère, and in the aging, using a blend of 80% concrete and 20% French oak for a shorter period of time. That said, the Terre di San Leonardo is intended to be the fresher and more immediate wine of the house. Crushed black cherries, wild, peppery herbs, crushed stone and hints of animal musk can be found in the glass. It trades power for tension, displaying a mix of tart woodland red and black berry fruits, complemented by zesty acids and minerals with just a hint of sweet spice. Its structure is present yet doesn’t overwhelm.

  14. La Poderina Rosso di Montalcino

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#50274

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Oct 2020
La Poderina’s 2018 Rosso di Montalcino opens to a light ruby color that shines nicely in the glass. The aromas open to wild fruit and tart cherry, but there’s a mineral note as well, with crushed stone or pencil shaving. Seeing 10 months in steel vat, this is a lean and tonic Sangiovese that would pair with a simple pasta al pomodoro with extra Parmigiano cheese grated over. Those chalky mineral tones give the wine better sharpness and definition compared to many of its peers. Some 44,000 bottles were rolled out, and you get great value with this bottle.
