Marietta Cellars "Family Series" wines

Marietta Cellars

Many long-time customers of Premier will be familiar with Marietta Cellars OVR "Old Vine Red," which is still labeled with a lot number instead of a vintage. While that wine formed the backbone of this family-owned winery many years ago, they are now able to showcase the many grape varieties grown throughout their Mendocino and Sonoma vineyards as vintage specific wines. This week we are featuring three wines from Marietta Cellars aptly-named "Family Series". Try these highly-rated and well-priced wines at your next family event.

The 2019 Román Zinfandel (blended with 4% Barbera and 2% Petite Sirah) has a medium ruby-purple color and gregarious scents of candied peach, wild berry preserves, orange peel and tar. The palate is deeply fruited but light on its feet with bright freshness and loads of perfume on the long finish.

The 2019 Román is a blend of Zinfandel, with dollops of Petite Sirah and Barbera, varieties I don’t think I have ever seen together before. A whole range of floral, savory and earthy notes lend complexity to this bold, flavorful red. This is another wine in the range that offers superb value.

  2. Marietta Armé

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#52229

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2018 Armé Cabernet Sauvignon is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 7% Merlot, 4% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot. Medium ruby-purple, it has pure, classic aromas of cassis, graphite, violets, loamy earth and tobacco. The intensely flavored palate is light on its feet with loads of juicy lift and a soft tannic frame, and it finishes long and floral. It’s an incredibly elegant style, particularly at this price point!

Round-textured and fruity with balance and softness, yet freshness at the same time. Medium-bodied. Attractive berry, currant and sweet green-tobacco undertones. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot and 4% malbec and 4% petit verdot. Drink now.

The 2018 Armé, Marietta’s Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, is terrific. Blue/black fruit, leather, smoke, spice, tobacco, dried herbs and sage give the 2018 its strong aromatic presence. There’s quite a bit of tannin, though, so a few years in bottle are advisable. Armé packs a serious punch. And it’s a steal, too.
