Wines from the New World
When compared to wines from the Old World (basically, wine producing countries from Europe and the Middle East), New World wines (produced in counties with overall warmer climates and a younger tradition of winemaking) typically accentuate characteristics of the grape rather than the taste of the land. Ripeness, concentration of fruit and often generous oak influence are all hallmarks of the style. Unlike many Old World regions, New World wines have the freedom to utilize modern vinification techniques that enable winemakers to produce high quality wines in even some of the most challenging years.
