    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 2, 2020
Very fresh, plummy fruit with black cherries. There is also a faint mineral, tarry character to the wine, making it more seductive. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and firm tannin. A linear mouth feel. No obesity here. From organically grown grapes. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

Vivid ruby-red. Jammy red and dark berry scents, enlivened by a suggestion of white pepper. Juicy and light on its feet, offering gently sweet black raspberry and spicecake flavors that loosen up on the back half. Finishes smooth and gently tannic, showing good cling and lingering sweetness.

  3. Evodia

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#31225

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Dec 2018
The incredibly perfumed 2017 Evodia was true to its name, as apparently ’evodia’ means fragrant in the ancient Greek language. It had been bottled for a few months when I tasted it and it was very harmonious and expressive. They have reduced quantities and raised the price a bit, going into a different segment of the market, definitely a better wine than what I tasted from 2016. It achieved almost 15% alcohol in 2017, one of the earliest harvests of the last 20 years after some spring frosts and a very dry summer. Only 20% of the volume matured in barrel, while the rest was kept in concrete vats for six months. It’s very easy to drink, with unnoticeable tannins and a long, lingering finish. Super tasty and impressive for the price. 150,000 bottles were produced.

  4. J. Wilkes Cabernet Sauvignon

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#51534

    WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2019
A high-toned acidity keeps this wine’s notes of ripe plum and fruit nectar in line and on point.
    VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Highlands District is a bold, pungent wine. Savory herbs, tobacco and cedar add a strong aromatic presence. Although a very good wine, the Cabernet is not quite as compelling as the other wines in the range, while the savory style is on the edge of being distractingly vegetal.

  5. Abeja Merlot

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#52636

    JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - April 11, 2019
Moving to the reds, the 2016 Merlot is beautiful and also up with the top Merlots in the vintage. Terrific red currants, blackberries, spice box, and cedary herb notes all flow to a plump, medium to full-bodied Merlot that hits the palate with loads of fruit, a stacked mid-palate, and a great finish. It’s already beautiful but promises to keep for 10–15 years. This cuvée is all Merlot and spent 21 months in 56% new French oak.
    VN92+92+ pts. - Vinous - Nov 2018
Bright red-ruby. Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of dark raspberry, cherry and sandalwood; as much red as black in character. Intensely flavored and sharply delineated, offering captivating inner-mouth perfumed lift to its dark berry and licorice flavors. A cooler and less pliant style than the 2015, but I love this wine’s restrained sweetness, definition and light touch. This serious, refined, very youthful Merlot finishes with an element of medicinal reserve, dusty tannins and sneaky energy and length. I expect it to put on weight and gain in complexity with time in bottle. A classic presentation of the 2016 vintage.
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2019
Polished and elegantly complex, with refined black cherry, mocha and thyme flavors that glide toward plush tannins. Drink now through 2025. 728 cases made.

  6. Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#69765

    JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Quite fragrant violet flowers and blueberries with some background, herbal notes, leading to a palate that has a plush, round and gently spicy thread of dark-cherry and cassis flavors. Drink now.
    VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
Dark red-ruby. Aromas of cassis and licorice are riper than those of the 2018 Malbec but still show an herbal element. A step up in texture and sweetness as well but still a bit lean, with its black fruit, fresh herb and menthol flavors framed by firm-edged acidity. Ultimately a bit simple but easy to drink.

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#35128

    RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
I found plenty of aromas from Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2018 Red Blend, even if it’s only 30% of the blend; 20% Bonarda and 50% Malbec make up the rest. The wine has clean aromas, it’s fruit-driven and aromatic, attractive and with impeccable balance. This is polished and very drinkable. 450,000 bottles produced.
    JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
This has an array of ripe cassis and blueberries with a smooth and juicy feel to the palate. Rather softly expressed flesh. A blend of malbec, bonarda and tempranillo. Drink now.
    VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
Good red-ruby. Dark berries complicated by chocolate and licorice on the nose. A bit more laid-back and complex than the Cabernet, showing modest texture but more refinement to its dark fruit and spice flavors. A touch of fruit sweetness is nicely countered by juicy acidity. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins, a touch of greenness and modest definition and lift.

  8. Alesia Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2018
The 2016 Pinot Noir (Santa Cruz Mountains) is a terrific appellation-level wine. Lifted and gracious, with terrific energy and cut, the 2016 is super-expressive today. Bright red cherry, orange peel, mint and chalky notes give the 2016 is attractive aromatic top notes to play off the wine’s energetic personality. The 2016 includes all the fruit from Rhys’s new Mt. Pajaro vineyard.

  9. Alta Vista Estate Malbec

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#51072

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
The 2017 Estate Malbec was produced with grapes from Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo and from their Vista Flores estate vineyard, which is planted at 1,100 meters in altitude. It fermented in concrete vats, and half of the volume aged in used oak barrels for 12 months. This is the breakthrough year for the Estate line, which is quite different from the 2016s and earlier vintages. There is a lot less oak here (only 33% new barrels compared with 100% used in the past), and there is more sense of place and finer minerality. This is a lot purer, with more varietal characteristics, great tannins and a long, tasty finish. This is also lower in alcohol (13.6%). 350,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2018.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
Dark red with ruby tones. Darker in its fruit aromas than the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, offering notes of chocolate and licorice to go with its black fruits. Then darker and a bit juicier than the Cabernet on the palate, showing more fruit sweetness as well as faint herbal lift. Compared to the 2017 Estate Cabernet, this Malbec has somewhat more energy and sweeter tannins too but it still comes across as a bit herbal. A smoother and more appealing wine with decent persistence.

  10. Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#53503

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
The Altesino 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli (with 15,000 bottles produced) is a true beauty. The wine reveals dark fruit intensity that comes forth as blackberry, plum and summer cherry. In no time, those aromas shift to the savory side of the spectrum with smoke, tar and tobacco. The results are generous and layered, offering the best of what the celebrated Montosoli cru can offer, especially in an ironic vintage such as this.
    VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli pulls you close to the glass with a captivating display of candied citrus rinds, incense and dried roses giving way to rich cherry sauce and a hint of brown spice. It’s deeply textural yet youthfully dense, as it first cools the palate with lavender and ripe dark red fruits; yet beneath is a layer of grippy tannins that close the wine down. Notes of licorice, black tea and purple florals linger on the youthfully chewy finale. The 2016 is just a baby today, and it will need a number of years to come fully into focus - but it will be worth the wait.

  11. Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Reserve

    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#63891

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Aug 2015
The 2013 Malbec Reserva is sourced from Vista Flores and Chacayes in the Valle de Uco where they look for calcareous soils on the alluvial terraces of the Arroyo Grande river. The wine matured in untoasted 3,500-liter oak foudres for 18 months. The wine has the bright red fruit and unnoticeable oak profile of the wines from Altos las Hormigas. It is very fresh and shinny in a vintage like 2013. There are raspberries, wild strawberries and red currants, with subtle spices and a medium-bodied palate with very fine tannins and great acidity that makes it really easy to drink and pleasant. Great Malbec at a very attractive price. 72,912 bottles produced.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2016
Bright red-ruby. Deep, reduced aromas of currant, crushed blackberry, leather and mocha. Plush, sweet and deep, with a seductive tactile quality to its flavors of plum, currant, tobacco and mocha. Fatter than the Gualtallary Malbec and easier to taste now. While it may not have as much energy for the long term, it offers superb texture without heaviness as well as lovely length.

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#33973

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
The introduction to the Valle de Uco is the 2016 Malbec Terroir Valle de Uco, which has grapes from La Consulta and Tupungato. In 2016, a cool year with low yields, they fermented the grapes in small stainless steel vats with indigenous yeasts, and 75% of the volume was kept unoaked while the remaining 25% matured in untoasted 3,500-liter oak foudres for 18 months. This is a Malbec that’s a lot more linear and austere, with superb freshness, super fine tannins and a subdued minerality, really serious. The palate is harmonious, balanced and mineral. It’s a bargain Malbec, really nuanced and with incipient complexity despite its youth. 93,000 bottles produced.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2018
Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, black cherry, violet, licorice and spicy oak on the nose. Juicy and penetrating, showing good saline grip to the flavors of cassis, blackberry, licorice and fresh herbs. Clearly a wine from a cooler year, displaying a distinct herbal element, but with no shortage of intensity. Shows little in the way of easy sweetness but the tannins are fine-grained and unobtrusive.

Deep ruby. Pungent, highly perfumed scents of ripe black and blue fruits, licorice and vanilla are joined by a spicy quality that carries onto the palate. Sweet boysenberry and cherry flavors, with a suggestion of mocha. Very nicely concentrated, but lively thanks to a cutting, smoky mineral componenton the back end. Supple tannins build on the finish, with sexy oak spice and floral pastille notes.

  14. Amici Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#52981

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is deep garnet-purple in color, striding confidently out of the glass with classic notes of baked plums, blackberry pie and blackcurrant cordial plus hints of cedar, unsmoked cigars and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and featuring impressively pure black fruit flavors, the palate delivers a firm texture of ripe, fine-grained tannins, finishing long, layered and with lovely freshness. 1,400 cases were made.
    JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 24, 2020
Lots of walnut, chocolate, currant and thyme character to this with some wet earth and forest fruit. Vibrant nose. It’s full-bodied with lots of fruit and ripe tannins. Flavorful finish. Solid red. Drink or hold.
    JD92+92–94+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2020
Lastly, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes is a selection put together by Biagi and comes from a mix of the single vineyards. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, all still aging in new barrels, it offers a plush, forward, full-bodied style that carries classic notes of jammy blackberry and cassis intermixed with lots of spice, chocolate, and a touch of graphite. This pleasure bent beauty will drink nicely for 10–15 years.
    VN91+91–94 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is powerful and dense with a real sense of classicism that runs through it. Gravel, licorice, black cherry, cloves and leather all race out of the glass in a positively stunning, inviting Cabernet that hits so many high notes. There is something truly magical about the 2018. Given its quality and price, the Reserve is unquestionably the wine in this range readers should focus on first.

  15. Anthony Road Pinot Gris

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#42848

    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016
The 2015 Pinot Gris is the latest release, dry (just five grams per liter of residual sugar) and coming in at 12.4% alcohol. Sourced from Martini Family and Nutt Road Vineyards, this is all unoaked. Its crisp and sunny demeanor is a pleasure to encounter. There are some hints of grass around the edges and this wine focuses more on acidity than concentration, sometimes making it just a bit atypical for Pinot Gris. That said, its fresh feel makes it an enticing summer wine. I liked it a lot. It may not have the depth of the 2012, also reviewed, but it matches or exceeds it in vigor.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2016
A more heady, floral expression of Pinot Gris, the 2015 displays a pungent, intense nose of dried flowers, papaya, and horchata (a milky drink made from ground almonds or rice). The palate is quite juicy but though it possesses the same amount of residual sugar (5 grams per liter) as the 2014, the lower acidity makes the wine appear a bit more heavy and rich. The finish is of a medium length, and marked by an intriguing smoky tone.
