A to Z Wineworks The Essence of Oregon Pinot Noir

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#44208

    WS9292 pts. - Wine & Spirits - April 1, 2017
A to Z’s 2015 is a compelling mélange of fruit and bramble, with a bosky scent of violets, clove and sous bois. Those savory notes sit comfortably in the background; the dark strawberry and cherry flavors are generous, vibrant and insistent, the texture rich yet fine. Drinking beautifully now, it’s a steal for quality Oregon pinot.
    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2017
Lightly prickly tannins surround a sleek, supple core of raspberry, cherry and floral flavors. A hint of savory spice adds to the gentle finish. Best from 2018 through 2022. 10,513 cases made.
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2017
This is a selection of the best of the 2015 fruit, in honor of the 15th anniversary. Pale ruby-purple in color, the 2015 The Essence of Oregon Pinot Noir offers up notions of black raspberry and red currants with an earthy undercurrent of dusty soil and mossy bark. Medium-bodied, the palate gives a very good intensity of vibrant red berry flavors supported by ripe, grainy tannins with plenty of freshness and a long, earthy finish.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry and cherry aromas and flavors display a vaguely jammy aspect and pick up a peppery nuance as the wine opens up. Juicy and light on its feet, showing no rough edges and a touch of peppery spiciness on the back. Closes with good lift and cut, leaving a hint of bitter chocolate behind.

This is a bright and fruity white with sliced-apple and -lime character. Medium to full body. Screw cap. Drink now.
    SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2018
Crunchy, offering snow pea notes to the green apple, apricot and tangerine flavors. The lusciously spiced finish is plush and juicy, with red peach overtones. Drink now. 32,000 cases imported.
    VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2017
Bright straw-yellow. Tropical fruits, peach and a touch of honey on the nose and palate. A fat, slightly sweet style with little in the way of restraint. I find this a bit thick and sweet but very easy to drink, even if it’s a little outsized for an aperitif.

Vivid ruby. Energetic aromas of black raspberry, licorice pastille and lavender, with a peppery element emerging as the wine opens in the glass. Sappy red and dark berry and cherry pit flavors are enlivened by juicy acidity and a hint of smoky minerality. Finishes with lingering spiciness and silky, harmonious tannins that sneak in late. This wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in used French oak barrels for ten months.

    Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#37632

    JS9494 pts. - - Friday, October 20, 2017
A decadent nose of coffee beans, treacle tart, plum liqueur, ash, asphalt, tar, chocolate-coated plums and cedar. Extremely full and intense with so much dense dark-fruit character, layers of fruit, a fine line of acidity and a long finish. Drink now.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2017
A seamless, medium- to full-bodied red. Like fine silk, this weaves through the range of crushed black cherry, licorice and citrus with fine, supple tannins and an underpinning of smoke-tinged mineral. Offers a long, lingering finish. Not a powerhouse, but this racehorse should go the distance. Drink now through 2030. 1,300 cases imported.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - May 2017
Very deep, saturated ruby. Fresh, piercing aromas of black cherry, violet, lavender and sweet spices on the nose. Then super smooth but dense, with wonderful poise and balance to the ripe red cherry, dark berry, aromatic herb and mineral flavors. Finishes long with youthfully chewy tannins and lingering floral nuances. Concentrated but tastes much lighter and vibrant than the majority of other Amarones made today; but the young chewy, grainy tannins pick up steam on the long finish and will require patience.

  7. Altesino Brunello di Montalcino

    40th Harvest
    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#44704

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2017
Cherry, leather and iron notes mark this suave, elegant red. A bit reticent now, but the fruit is fresh and long on the finish. The dense tannins leave a mouthcoating impression, but this opens up beautifully over a few hours. Best from 2021 through 2035. 10,000 cases made.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2017
Marking the winery’s 40th harvest, this vintage offers classic Sangiovese fragrance: wild berry, blue flower, baking spice and a whiff of new leather. The palate is sleek and elegant, doling out juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and star anise, framed by lithe, polished tannins and fresh acidity. It’s loaded with finesse and tempting now but will be even better with a few more years in bottle. Drink 2019–2026.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2017
Altesino is now celebrating the release of its 40th harvest. In fact, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is inscribed with the words "our 40th Harvest" in gold letters on its front label. This is a truly delicious wine that exceeds my expectations. I love the way it takes full command of the slightly bolder and more opulent dark fruit aromas produced in this hot vintage. Black cherry, plum and crème de cassis converge on the bouquet. Grilled herb, forest floor, licorice and exotic spice play supporting roles. The finish offers moderate acidity on the Sangiovese scale. This means the wine is mush fresher and more tonic than most Tuscan reds. The finish is long and silky.
    JS9393 pts. - - Wednesday, November 30, 2016
A juicy Brunello with plum and dark-chocolate character, yet this always remains subtle and fresh. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
Deep ruby-red. Perfumed aromas and flavors of blueberry and violet. Clean and juicy, with lively but harmonious acidity extending the fresh flavors on the long vibrant back end. This is the estate’s 40th harvest.

    ST9090 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Sep/Oct 2014
Good dark red. Bright aromas of redcurrant, licorice and wild herbs. Sweet on entry, then fresh and juicy in the middle, showing moderate flesh and texture but attractive vibrancy to its red berry and licorice flavors. This sweet, soft wine offers plenty of early appeal and is a terrific value.

  9. Anthony Road Pinot Gris
    Anthony Road Pinot Gris

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#42848

    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Jun 2016
The 2015 Pinot Gris is the latest release, dry (just five grams per liter of residual sugar) and coming in at 12.4% alcohol. Sourced from Martini Family and Nutt Road Vineyards, this is all unoaked. Its crisp and sunny demeanor is a pleasure to encounter. There are some hints of grass around the edges and this wine focuses more on acidity than concentration, sometimes making it just a bit atypical for Pinot Gris. That said, its fresh feel makes it an enticing summer wine. I liked it a lot. It may not have the depth of the 2012, also reviewed, but it matches or exceeds it in vigor.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2016
A more heady, floral expression of Pinot Gris, the 2015 displays a pungent, intense nose of dried flowers, papaya, and horchata (a milky drink made from ground almonds or rice). The palate is quite juicy but though it possesses the same amount of residual sugar (5 grams per liter) as the 2014, the lower acidity makes the wine appear a bit more heavy and rich. The finish is of a medium length, and marked by an intriguing smoky tone.

    Anthony Road Riesling Dry

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#44152

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2016
Though a younger wine, the 2015 Dry Riesling is already far more open-knit and ready to drink than the ’14. A succulent, juicy beauty that is peachy to its core, this wine offers a nose of white nectarine, white peaches, pear blossoms and green tea. Texturally it is quite generous, though an electric acidity snakes through the fruit, adding life and interest. 7 grams per liter residual sugar.
