Critical Acclaim

JS97 JamesSuckling.com Tuesday, April 28, 2015

"This is very structured with ripe and silky tannins that show a dense and compacted fruit character. It’s full and racy. Impressive tone and form. A blend of 43% merlot, 48% cabernet sauvignon and 9% cabernet franc. Try in 2019." (97 pts.)

RP96 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 30th Oct 2014

"The 2012 Second Flight may be the highest scoring second wine I have ever reviewed. A blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, it is completely different from the Screaming Eagle since the latter wine is at least 75% or more Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Merlot with only a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc. The 2012 Second Flight offers up floral, blue and black fruit, mocha and white chocolate characteristics. It possesses full-bodied, silky flavors, and a finish that lasts 50+ seconds. It can be drunk now, but should evolve effortlessly for 12–15+ years." (96 pts.)

VN94+ Vinous Dec 2014

"The 2012 Second Flight kicks things up a notch. Dense, layered and voluptuous in the glass, the Second Flight impresses for its breadth and volume. Although only recently bottled, the 2012 nevertheless shows superb depth and tons of pure personality." (94+ pts.)

ST92+ Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar May/Jun 2014

"Sappy aromas of black raspberry, bitter chocolate, menthol, iron, violet and rose petal. Densely packed and broad, with an insinuating sweetness to the fine-grained flavors of dark berries, flowers, iron, hot bricks and minerals. Finishes classically dry, with lush tannins coating the front teeth. A very distinctive wine in the making" (92–94 pts.)

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).
