Aromas of plum and black cherry that give way to notes of black tea, violet and savory spices. The palate is well-balanced, highlighting both the fruit and non-fruit flavors equally. Black and red berries share the stage with notes of espresso, anise, dried leaf and limestone. Fine tannins and meaningful acidity make this wine a standout. (Jeff Porter)

The Allegrini 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico reverts to a classic profile for air-dried fruit made with appassimento. There are distant whiffs of candied cherry that give more lift and intensity to the bouquet that is otherwise characterized by heavier tones of black fruit, candied cherry, red licorice and sweet earth or potting soil. It finishes with a well-balanced full-bodied style (and a noticeable 16% alcohol content). The traditional blend is 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, and 100,000 bottles were released. (Monica Larner)

Elegant and balanced, medium-bodied and harmonious, this Amarone offers ripe black and red cherry fruit and a subtle minerally underpinning of smoke and loamy earth. Reveals hints of fig cake, ground anise and dried thyme, which add complexity and linger on the refined finish. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2034. 12,083 cases made, 4,117 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

Corvina, corvinone, rondinella and sangiovese. In the past, all grapes were dried. Only corvinone today is dried due to the large berry size and greater liquid-to-solid ratio. While the oak is evident, this is clearly a full-weighted wine built to age. With this in mind, it serves as a structural addendum rather than a scream. Dark saturated cherry notes, kirsch, licorice strap, black olive tapenade and alpine herb, bound to an edgy twine of tannins, with an underlying raft of freshness conferring a sappy, crunchy feel and fine length. Drink or hold. (Ned Goodwin MW)

A portion of this wine undergoes a drying process called appassimento and then is blended into the non-dried wine. This process gives the wine richness and intensity while also keeping the freshness needed to balance out the wine. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, sour cherry, mixed herbs and dried violets spill from the glass. The palate is rich yet in balance, with savory notes and forest floor combining with the densely packed fruit, and a perfectly timed pop of acidity on the finish. (Jeff Porter)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Oct 2023
A blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese, the 2020 Palazzo della Torre is luscious, dark and exceedingly contemporary in style and execution. This is a soft and well-textured expression with layers of ripe fruit, black cherry, spice, bitter chocolate and tangy Spanish cedar from oak aging. The oak is quite dominate, so be ready for this particular stylistic approach. This is an ample production of 600,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)

A juicy, balanced red, framed by light, supple tannins, this offers flavors of damson plum preserves, dark chocolate and black cherry coulis, backed by hints of anise, sage and espresso. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese. Drink now. 33,333 cases made, 24,240 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

Just bottled. A classic blend from a dry vintage, among the driest on record, competing with 2003. Yet the ripeness is beautifully balanced by an underlying freshness due to savvy canopy management. Sappy red to dark fruit allusions, fennel seeds and violets. The tannins, a gritty sheath of cocoa powder with a fleck of leafiness. Despite the juicy mid-weighted feel, this boasts a winning freshness. Poised, versatile and very easy to drink. A very good classico. Drink or hold. (Ned Goodwin MW)
