Critical Acclaim
SP95 Wine Spectator Oct 31, 2016
"Offers a distinctive core of rich dark cherry flavors, with a twinge of sour cherry candy amid the dense mix of red and dark fruit. The tannins are tight and gripping, holding on through the long, deep finish. Best from 2020 through 2035. 225 cases made." (95 pts.)
RP95+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Oct 2015
"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja comes from a four-acre vineyard just below the Dalla Valle estate in the Vaca hillsides of the Oakville corridor, where the red soils dominate. This wine is a beauty, showing loads of cedar wood, licorice and dusty, loamy underbrush notes along with oodles of blackberry and cassis fruit. Its beautiful purity, full-bodied mouthfeel, and majestic texture and length all suggest a brilliant future of 15–25 years for this offering." (95+ pts.)

"Lots of deep fruit with blueberry, mineral, mint and graphite aromas. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a glorious finish. Tight and integrated. Polished and exciting. Give this wine two or three more years of bottle age. Better in 2019." (97 pts.)
CaliforniaWhen it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular). | United StatesThe United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States. |

- Chateau Lynch-Bages, Pauillac 2016 / 750 ml.JS98+98–99 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2017
This is really back-ended thanks to a powerful and almost endless finish. Full-bodied, dense and powerful with incredible concentration and length. Round and polished tannins. Layered. This unravels bit by bit. Energetic acidity gives it such superb freshness. This is at the 2010/2009 level. RP97+97+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lynch Bages comes charging out of the gate with pronounced cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and menthol notions, backed up by scents of garrigue, tilled soil and a waft of tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fantastically concentrated, the generous fruit is superbly framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins with tons of pepper, cinnamon and cloves layers coming through on the finish. Truly, a legendary Lynch Bages! SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019
This is built for the cellar, with a generous core of kirsch, raspberry paste and plum preserve flavors waiting to unfurl. Will take time, due to the licorice snap, roasted apple wood and sweet tobacco elements draped over the fruit. Should meld with age, as the structure is invigorating in feel, showing both acidity and tannins in lockstep with the fruit. Best from 2025 through 2040. WE96+96–98 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
This wine is ripe and opulent, while still elegant. The balance is fine, showing plenty of concentration and a light touch of acidity. Black currant fruit matches the tannins and structure, making this one for the long term. VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
A stellar wine, the 2016 Lynch-Bages is dark and explosive in the glass. Beams of tannin and bright acids give the 2016 its sense of drive and tension. From bottle, the 2016 is quite a bit more powerful than it was from barrel. Dark flavors and potent tannins give the 2016 a distinctly brooding, somber feel. Sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and wild cherry are all laced into the potent, dramatically sweeping finish. Readers should not be in a rush, as the 2016 is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Even so, it is super-impressive today.Compare at $199.99 $159.99 - Chateau Haut-Bailly Pessac-Leognan 2016 / 750 ml.JS98+98–99 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, April 4, 2017
This young wine shows such pinpoint precision with a full body, dense fruit and gorgeous intensity. Muscular yet toned and beautiful. It really builds on the finish. Very fine-grained. So long and beautiful. Sophisticated power. Oyster shell and iodine undertones. Traditional style yet with a modern interpretation. Savory. RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Apr 2017
The 2016 Haut Bailly is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc picked between 26 September until 18 October. Coming in with 13.6% alcohol and an IPT of 81, which is quite close to 2010, this was quite closed at first and so I allowed my sample 15–20 minutes to open while discussing the vintage with Véronique Sanders and technical manager, Gabriel Vialard. It has a classic bouquet that is certainly less opulent and extravagant than recent vintages. This is more controlled and focused, beautifully delineated with blackberry, cedar and Earl Grey aromas that gently waft from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine-grain tannin, sappy with superb delineation and real weight and presence in the mouth. There is just the right amount of spice and salinity, the latter beckoning you back for another sip and there is a haunting pencil lead note that forms the closing credits on the aftertaste. What a brilliant Haut-Bailly, perhaps the best that I have tasted in almost 20 years of tasting at this estate. WE96+96–98 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
Firm tannins cannot mask the fact that this aromatic wine is gorgeous, rich and fruity. It has a powerful structure to sustain the black plum and berry flavors. It is an impressive and concentrated wine, ready for the long haul. VN94+94–97+ pts. - Vinous - Apr 2017
The 2016 Haut-Bailly is a huge, powerful wine that explodes in all directions. Black cherry, smoke, tobacco, licorice, menthol, incense and gravel are all pushed forward, but it is the wine’s volume and pure intensity that stand out most. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2016 is likely to be a slow-maturing wine, but even today the phenomenal finish is a marvel. The 2016 is a great Haut-Bailly in the making. It will reward several decades of cellaring.Compare at $169.99 $135.99 - Chateau Pichon Baron Pauillac 2015 / 750 ml.WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 2/1/2018
This is one of the great successes of this vintage. It is generous and rich while also solid and structured. The combination of the essence of black currant and the elegant tannic structure are superb. This is a wine for serious aging and the wine should not be broached before 2026. VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2018
A dramatic, sweeping wine, the Pichon-Longueville Baron is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. The 2015 is dense, plush and totally voluptuous as it sweeps across the palate to make its presence known. Nuanced and poised, with seemingly endless layers of nuance, the 2015 is super-impressive. A melange of dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, mint, spice and rose petal builds as this towering, dramatic Pauillac shows off its allure. In 2015, Pichon Baron is endowed with spectacular balance and class. This is quite simply a brilliant showing from the 2015. RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Feb 2018
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pichon-Longueville Baron is enticingly scented of chocolate-covered cherries, crushed red currants and mulberries with touches of baking spices, potpourri and bay leaves plus a hint of fallen leaves. Sumptuously elegant, refreshing and medium-bodied with gorgeous, expressive, perfumed red fruits and very fine, very firm tannins, it has a persistent, perfumed finish. Its remarkable intensity, freshness and very firm frame suggest a long-lived Pichon Baron, which should cellar gracefully for 30+ years. JS96+96–97 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, April 1, 2016
Very solid and muscular Pichon Baron with ripe and velvety tannins. Full and very rich with balance of ripe fruit that deliver blackberry, walnut and spice. Warm and ripe yet finishes cool and sassy. SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2018
A juicy, well-knit style, with energetic plum and black currant compote notes that are studded with anise and black tea accents. Has a muscular edge through the finish, with brambly grip holding sway for now. There’s more than enough fruit to put this away for a bit. Best from 2022 through 2035. 14,833 cases made.Compare at $189.99 $151.99
