  1. Bastide Miraflors

Syrah & Vieilles Vignes de Grenache
    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#35538

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Apr 2017
This wine is almost too good to be true. A blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache that was brought up in concrete tanks (Grenache) and demi-muids (Syrah), the 2015 Bastide Miraflors Vieilles Vignes reminded me of a mini Syrah from California’s Manfred Krankl (yes I just compared a $14 Syrah to Sine Qua Non). It’s a ripe, sexy, heady beauty that exhibits a deep, purple color as well as killer notes of smoked meats, chocolate, blackberry and black raspberries. Deep, unctuous, open knit and layered, it continues to change in the glass, has a seamless and silky profile, and not a hard edge to be found. It’s a sensational value that needs to be tasted to be believed. Drink it anytime over the coming 2–4 years.

A very fresh and zesty sauvignon, offering flinty and fresh passion fruit and limes and flowing to a smoothly fleshy, mango and peach palate. Drink now. Screw cap.
    RP8585 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Apr 2020
The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc features scents of cut grass, pink grapefruit and lemon. It’s light to medium-bodied, crisp and refreshing, with a finish of wet stone, green onion and modest citrus.

    Cru La Livinière
    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#45828

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2014
Made from 100% Syrah, the 2012 Minervois Syrah Les Planels is impressive! Offering classic cassis, raspberry, licorice and hints of vanilla, it has fabulous purity, a lively, yet voluptuous and layered texture and a great finish. Hard to resist now, it should evolve gracefully for a solid 7–8 years.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2016
There is a freshness behind the savory spice and meaty notes in this medium-bodied red, with bright red berry, plum and bitter chocolate flavors pushing through midpalate. Grippy tannins define the zesty, herb-tinged finish. Drink now through 2018. 1,100 cases made.

  4. Chateau Maris Les Anciens

    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#43720

    RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2015
I loved the 2013 Minervois la Liviniere les Anciens, and this blend of 100% Carignan knocks it out of the park with its liquid violet, crushed rock, peppery herbs and fresh plum and berry fruits. Medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, elegant profile that the hallmark of the vintage, it has fine tannin and a great mid-palate. It should drink nicely on release and have 5–7 years of longevity.
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - June 1, 2016
From vines planted in 1922, the fruit fermented in concrete tanks and open wooden vats, this is tough, tangy carignan, the fruit tart and red, like seedy raspberries laced with earthy spice. The tannin ropes through the wine like gristle in a steak, the wine chewy without being heavy. For carignan, it’s almost elegant.

  5. Tessellae Old Vines

    Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre
    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#36175

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jul 2015
A stunning bargain from Lafage is the 2014 Tessellae Old Vines, a blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, all aged in concrete. Much of it comes from 70-year-old vines planted in limestone and clay soils. A delicious, dense ruby wine with notes of red and black cherries, earth, spice, pepper and a touch of Provençal garrigue. Fresh vibrant acidity is also present, and the wine is uncomplicated, but rich, fleshy and very well balanced. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.

  6. Castaño Alcaria

    Old Vines
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#50069

    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 21, 2018
A custom cuvée made for importer Eric Solomon with Jean-Marc Lafage, the 2016 Alcaria is a blend of 50% Monastrell, 25% Syrah, and the balance Garnacha, brought up in a mix of French and American oak barrels. An incredible value that more than over-delivers, this deeply colored red boasts terrific notes of ripe black fruits, chocolate, smoked herbs, and graphite. With full-boded richness and a sexy, opulent style on the palate, it opens up nicely in the glass and should keep for 2–4 years.
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2017
One of the new custom cuvées for their U.S. importer Eric Solomon is the 2016 Alcaria, which is about to be launched. It’s a GSM-ish blend of 60% Monastrell with 25% Syrah and the remaining Garnacha Tintorera with a short time in French and American oak barriques. It’s a little reduced right now after bottling (most probably because of the Syrah), so you might need to give it an energetic decanting or some more time in bottle. The meat component in many wines in this region is part of the signature and the rustic elegance of these wines. There is no reduction in the palate, where the tannins are fine-grained and there’s good balance. 120,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2017.
    SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2017
Floral and mineral notes frame juicy cherry and red plum flavors in this fresh red. Crisp acidity keeps the supple texture focused, while firm tannins give this some heft. Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera. Drink now through 2024. 6,000 cases imported.
    WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2018
This blend of Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera feels lively, its dark plum and berry aromas laced with chocolate. Smacking tannins create a dry sensation, framing ripe black plum and prune flavors. Complex notes of spice and tomato emerge on the firm finish.

On the elegantly structured, youthfully austere palate, firm refined tannins accompany red cherry, crushed raspberry and star anise while fresh acidity provides balance. Drink 2020–2025.

Aromas of blood, iron and raw beef lead off, followed by flavors of cherry, plum and leather. Rich and harmonious, with a dense underlying structure and terrific length. JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019

This is certainly an intensely structured wine, but its name seems rather excessive for what are balanced fruit and juicy tannins. It has a smooth, minty character, bold berry fruits and a ripe full texture. The tannins and acidity will allow the wine to age further well into 2019, although it can be drunk now.
