  2. Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
    Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#37632

    JS9494 pts. - - Friday, October 20, 2017
A decadent nose of coffee beans, treacle tart, plum liqueur, ash, asphalt, tar, chocolate-coated plums and cedar. Extremely full and intense with so much dense dark-fruit character, layers of fruit, a fine line of acidity and a long finish. Drink now.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2017
A seamless, medium- to full-bodied red. Like fine silk, this weaves through the range of crushed black cherry, licorice and citrus with fine, supple tannins and an underpinning of smoke-tinged mineral. Offers a long, lingering finish. Not a powerhouse, but this racehorse should go the distance. Drink now through 2030. 1,300 cases imported.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - May 2017
Very deep, saturated ruby. Fresh, piercing aromas of black cherry, violet, lavender and sweet spices on the nose. Then super smooth but dense, with wonderful poise and balance to the ripe red cherry, dark berry, aromatic herb and mineral flavors. Finishes long with youthfully chewy tannins and lingering floral nuances. Concentrated but tastes much lighter and vibrant than the majority of other Amarones made today; but the young chewy, grainy tannins pick up steam on the long finish and will require patience.

    40th Harvest
    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#44704

    SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2017
Cherry, leather and iron notes mark this suave, elegant red. A bit reticent now, but the fruit is fresh and long on the finish. The dense tannins leave a mouthcoating impression, but this opens up beautifully over a few hours. Best from 2021 through 2035. 10,000 cases made.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2017
Marking the winery’s 40th harvest, this vintage offers classic Sangiovese fragrance: wild berry, blue flower, baking spice and a whiff of new leather. The palate is sleek and elegant, doling out juicy red cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and star anise, framed by lithe, polished tannins and fresh acidity. It’s loaded with finesse and tempting now but will be even better with a few more years in bottle. Drink 2019–2026.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2017
Altesino is now celebrating the release of its 40th harvest. In fact, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino is inscribed with the words "our 40th Harvest" in gold letters on its front label. This is a truly delicious wine that exceeds my expectations. I love the way it takes full command of the slightly bolder and more opulent dark fruit aromas produced in this hot vintage. Black cherry, plum and crème de cassis converge on the bouquet. Grilled herb, forest floor, licorice and exotic spice play supporting roles. The finish offers moderate acidity on the Sangiovese scale. This means the wine is mush fresher and more tonic than most Tuscan reds. The finish is long and silky.
    JS9393 pts. - - Wednesday, November 30, 2016
A juicy Brunello with plum and dark-chocolate character, yet this always remains subtle and fresh. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
Deep ruby-red. Perfumed aromas and flavors of blueberry and violet. Clean and juicy, with lively but harmonious acidity extending the fresh flavors on the long vibrant back end. This is the estate’s 40th harvest.

  4. Antinori Guado Al Tasso
    Antinori Guado Al Tasso

    2010 / 750 ml. | Item#37806

    RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2013
A star on the vast stage that is the Antinori wine empire, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a seamless and stunning wine. It’s one of those rare wines that inspires praise and excited conversation from the very second you raise the glass to your nose. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Baritone aromas of black cherry, black currant, cured meat, sweet spice, Spanish cedar, mocha and wild Mediterranean herbs come together in graceful unity. In the mouth, the wine is exceedingly smooth and decadent with a long velvety trail that softly coats the palate. This is one for the cellar. Anticipated maturity: 2015–2030.
    WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2014
Antinori’s blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc creates a vibrant, structured wine that shows tension and energy. It opens with aromas of black cherry, black currant, dark spices and leather that carry through to the palate alongside firm but refined tannins and vibrant freshness. It already has nice depth but give it time to develop complexity. Drink 2015–2030.
    VN93+93+ pts. - Vinous - Aug 2013
The 2010 Guado al Tasso comes across as incredibly stern and tannic, with little of the aromatic expressiveness and sheer juiciness of the best years. The warm, resonant Cabernet Franc bouquet and dark fruit are less evident than they are normally. In 2010 the rains were particularly challenging, which means the percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc way down, while Merlot is up. It will be interesting to see where the 2010 goes over the coming years. Today, the firm sense of structure is much more typical of Antinori’s wines from Chianti Classico. Still, there is plenty of intrigue in the 2010.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2014
Rich yet tightly wound, delivering cherry, black currant, floral, spice and mineral flavors. The structure keeps this compact and monolithic for now, with a resonant finish that should develop beautifully over the next decade or so. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2016 through 2030.

  5. Argot Wines Bastard Tongue Pinot Noir
Argot Wines Bastard Tongue Pinot Noir

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#46252

    RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
Even better is the 2014 Pinot Noir Bastard Tongue, from a blend of Swan, Pommard and Dijon 115 clones, which was aged 22 months in 85% new French oak. Dark raspberry, strawberry and cherry notes give the wine a dark-red-fruit character, but there are also loamy soil undertones, underbrush, spice box and a rich, medium to full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel. This is a complex Pinot Noir to drink now and over the next decade.
    JS9191 pts. - - Tuesday, May 23, 2017
Fresh and fruity red with dried berry and spice character. Medium body. Savory finish. A little fluid, but I like it. Drink now.
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2017
A rich, expansive, gutsy effort, packed with dark berry, loamy earth, sage and underbrush flavors. A pleasing mouthful, balancing intensity with a measure of grace and finesse. Drink now through 2021. 225 cases made.

    Arietta Variation One

    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#41728

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2014
Another rich, extroverted wine, the 2012 Variation One jumps from the glass with exuberant blue and black stone fruit, herbs and new leather. The blend of Syrah and Merlot works beautifully here. Powerful, explosive and enveloping, the Variation One will offer a wide window of pure drinking pleasure over the next 10–15 years. There is so much to like here.
    ST92+92–95 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - May/Jun 2014
Bright, full ruby. Black raspberry, tar and earth on the expressive nose. Plush and chewy, even a bit youthfully muscular, with a distinctly savory quality to the raspberry and smoke flavors. Not a particularly gamey style of syrah. Very long and saline on the sweet, ripely tannic finish. A powerful wine in the making. There was no 2011 version as the Hudson Vineyard syrah was ruined by the cold, humid summer and harvest rainfall.

    Avennia Sestina

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#46395

    RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Jun 2017
The Left Bank-style/Cabernet-dominated wine is the 2014 Sestina, and in 2014 it’s a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Cassis, licorice, violets, lead pencil shavings and hints of herbs all give way to a layered, full-bodied, multi-dimensional wine that has sweet tannin and a great finish. It’s about as voluptuous and sexy a wine as Chris has ever made.
    VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2016
Bright ruby-red. Aromas of plum, dark berries, bitter chocolate, graphite and earth. Compellingly sweet, plush, suave wine with intense dark fruit and spice flavors clarified and enlivened by excellent integrated acidity. Really superb brambly New World fruit leads to a brisk, gripping back end featuring serious but fine-grained mouthcoating tannins and terrific length and lift. I retasted the 2013 bottling next to this beauty and its tannins were less pliant and refined.
    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2017
Coming from older vine plantings at Dionysus, Red Willow, Boushey and Bacchus vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) takes the lead, with the rest Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc. Aromas of graphite, savory herb and red and black fruit are followed by refined fruit flavors. It shows a sophisticated sensibility, bringing a sense of texture and vibrancy, along with a lingering finish.

Barone Ricasoli Castello di Brolio Chianti Classico

    Gran Selecione
    2013 / 750 ml. | Item#45512

    JS9595 pts. - - Monday, August 22, 2016
A bright and refined red with delicate chocolate, plum and raspberry character. Medium body, integrated fruit and tannins. Bright acidity. Love the vivid fruit and citrus combination here. Drink now or hold.
    RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2015
Tasted from vat, the 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio is shaping up to be a stunning wine, and may be one of the best expressions this single vineyard has produced so far in its young incarnation as a Gran Selezione wine. Previous vintages see some small additions of international grapes, but this vintage was made without Merlot in the blend. The wine is brimming with bright fruit intensity and enormous generosity. The finish is luscious, rich and long-lasting. It promises to flesh out further with more bottle aging.
    SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2016
Inviting aromas and flavors of black cherry, black currant, toasty oak, spice and tar are backed by solid grip. Fresh and long, with fine balance in the end. Best from 2017 through 2027. 6,250 cases made.
    VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2016
The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Brolio is floral, lifted and gracious in style. Sweet floral notes meld into red cherry, pomegranate, spice and cedar. This is an especially lifted, gracious Chianti Classico built on finesse rather than power. Still, I would like to see a bit more mid-palate depth and overall resonance.

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#61952

    JS9696 pts. - - Friday, December 15, 2017
Lovely cranberry fruit here along with blood oranges, lavender, some earth, cherry blossom, redcurrants, fresh herbs and spices. Medium-bodied but with vibrant acidity and fruit that just takes off. Such minerality yet plenty of depth and fine tannins. So elegant and pinpointed. Drink now or hold.
    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2017
Offers impressive presence and polish, with a multilayered, complex core wrapped in rich, expressive blueberry and cherry flavors, accented by savory spice and espresso details. Builds depth as this dances toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025. 2,700 cases made.
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2018
Deep lurid red. Intensely perfumed aromas of raspberry liqueur, vanilla, Indian spices and potpourri, along with a hint of smoky minerals that builds in the background. Densely packed and alluringly sweet, showing impressive depth and a bright mineral core to the sappy red berry, spicecake and floral pastille flavors. Gains power with air while maintaining energy and focus. Smooth tannins build slowly and harmonize with the vibrant fruit on an impressively persistent, floral-driven finish.

    Bedrock Pagani Ranch Heritage

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#44654

    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2017
Potent and rich, this red is loaded with personality, offering expressive blackberry and smoky pepper aromas and dark, complex currant and blueberry flavors, accented by licorice and Chinese five-spice powder. The tannins are bold but balanced. Zinfandel and other red varieties. Drink now through 2025. 300 cases made.
    VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
The 2015 Pagani Heritage is the most overt and flamboyant of the Sonoma Valley wines. Inky red fruit, wild flowers, violet, mint and plum infuse this super-concentrated, dense Zinfandel-based wine.
    RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
The 2015 Pagani Heritage Wine was one of the few barrel samples I tasted. It comes from a parcel in Sonoma planted in the 1880s in another mixed blacks’ field of clay. This wine exhibits a dense purple color, deep licorice, creosote, pen ink, and blueberry and blackberry fruit in a full-bodied, spicy style with some earthy, sexy notes in the background. Drink it over the next 7–8 years.
