Campbells Isabella Rare Rutherglen Tokay NV / 375 ml.

Item#: 12109

SP9898 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 15, 2002
Dense, rich, syrupy and utterly seductive, a sensational sweet dessert wine that drapes itself all over the palate, offering dried cherry and prune flavors at the core, with coffee, tar, brazil nut and sweet spices weaving through the finish as it sails on and on (and on). It manages to balance sweetness with refinement.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Dec 2006
The more ancient soleras (usually the base wine is well over 60 years of age) are bottled under the “Rare” caption, and often flirt with perfection. The non-vintage Rare Tokay Isabella is slightly less sweet (293 grams of residual sugar per liter) with a lighter amber color than the Muscat Merchant Prince. Nevertheless, it possesses superb intensity as well as palate presence with hints of honeysuckle, raisins, black tea, marmalade, and toffee. This is an extraordinary beverage that must be tasted to be believed.
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2002
The prodigious non-vintage Rare Tokay Isabelle exhibits a dark amber color as well as acidity, and a penetrating, pungent bouquet of prunes, raisins, tea, marmalade, maple syrup, and coffee. It is enormously rich and unctuous. In spite of all the sweetness, its acid profile prevents it from being cloying or heavy. This is a remarkable effort with levels of texture and richness that must be tasted to be believed.

When casual wine drinkers think of Australian wine, they probably think of the critter-laden labels of Yellow Tail and The Little Penguin, among others. And while large wine companies dominate the Australian list, there are also a great number of smaller producers creating highly-rated, award-winning wines.

The majority of Australian wine is produced in South Australia, with most of that (those “critter wines”) carrying a South Eastern Australia appellation. Subregions such as Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale are home to smaller producers and higher quality wines. Victoria and New South Wales are also significant regions, and wines from Western Australia are reaching America in increasing numbers.

Though Shiraz is the grape most associated with Australia, they’ve also had great success with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Grenache.
