RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Apr 2008
[No tasting note was given.]
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2008
Shows enticing aromas of toffee, cream, dried apricot and caramel. Full-bodied, very sweet and thick, with honey and caramel flavors. Long and rich, oozing with sweet, ripe fruit, this is like liquid candy. Best after 2016.
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2008
You get both apricots and honeyed botrytis aromas that are followed through by a dry core, very full-bodied with richness, the sweetness of the yellow jam fruits, apricots and mangoes gliding over the palate. Delicious, and certainly ageworthy.
ST9393 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 2008
Full yellow-golden. Expressive aromas of pineapple, coconut, sweet vanillin oak and spices. Then wonderfully thick, fat and sweet, with the exotic coconut character carrying through in the mouth. Finishes saline and powerful, with palate-staining flavors of pineapple, coconut and spicy oak. Conveys a strong impression of solidity.

Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2008
Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. Full-bodied, with loads of cream and vanilla and an intense tropical fruit and honey aftertaste. Long and viscous, with a layered and beautiful spicy finish. Hard not to drink it now. Best after 2014.
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2008
Typical of the huge power of Guiraud, this is one of the richest Sauternes in 2005. The wine is rich and intense, the dry edge of botrytis just dominating the sweetness. Flavors of honey, almonds and peaches give the wine extra complexity.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Jun 2013
Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The 2005 Guiraud has a slightly more reduced bouquet compared to the 2004, with dried honey, marmalade and just a hint of petrol emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a viscous entry, crisp acidity, touches of beeswax and almond defining the harmonious waxy textured finish. This needs another two or three years in the cellar, but it should evolve into a delectable Sauternes. Drink 2016–2030. Tasted April 2013.

SP92+92–94 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2006
[Barrel tasting] Lots of spices, lemon rind and honey follow through to a thick, full-bodied palate. Long finish. Dense and sweet.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2008
Green apple, toffee and lemon tart aromas open to a full body. Very sweet, with caramel, cooked apple and light vanilla flavors. Long and flavorful. Dense and sweet. Best after 2009.
WE88+88–90 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/21/2006
[Barrel tasting] Lemon aromas of surprising intensity allow this wine to stand out from the crowd. But they also give it a dry, firm feel with acidity more dominant than sweetness.
ST88+88+ pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 2008
Full yellow. Aromas of peach, flowers and marzipan. Dense on entry, then sweet and concentrated in the middle, with a slightly aggressive note of reduction showing today. In an awkward stage, but this boasts strong sappy, spicy material. Like a couple of these ’05s, this seems youthfully musclebound in the early going.
