France

France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. And while producers in other nations have tried to imitate these unbelievable french wines, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy. You may drink sparkling wine from many countries, but there is only one Champagne.

Likewise, the Syrah of the Northern Rhône and the Malbec of Cahors are unlike any expression of those grapes you will find in California, Argentina, Australia or elsewhere. And let us not forget Alsace, which sets the international standard for Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, or the Loire Valley and its one-of-a-kind Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc.

  3. Bastide Miraflors

Syrah & Vieilles Vignes de Grenache
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#35538

Based on 74% Syrah and 26% Grenache brought up in in a combination of concrete tanks (for the Grenache) and one year old demi-muids (for the Syrah), the 2018 Cotes Du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a knockout bottle of wine. It offers loads of black fruits, roasted herbs, peppered meat, violets, and bacon fat as well as full-bodied richness, a round, opulent style, ripe tannins, and a blockbuster finish. It’s one of the finest values out there.

    Grenache Syrah Mourvèdre
    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#36175

    JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021
Kirsch, blackberries, flowers, and peppery garrigue notes all emerge from the 2018 Tessellae Old Vines. Medium to full-bodied, with a beautifully balanced, elegant style, ripe tannins, and a great finish, this will stand up to many a top Châteauneuf du Pape. The blend is 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre.

This well-structured wine strikes a good balance between tannins and blackberry fruitiness. A touch of dark chocolate comes through to underline its ripe structure. It’s ready to drink.
