Burgundy

Burgundy

The best Burgundy wines are stately and elegant, with mystique and complexity that is distinctly feminine. These northeastern France appellations are famed for some of the greatest reds and whites in the world.

Although there is a growing awareness for the light, fresh Aligote, the reigning white of the Burgundy region is Chardonnay. From the soft, ripe Maconnais through the sophisticated, intricate whites from the Cote de Beaune to the crisp, mineral-driven Chablis, every appellation's production style is evident. Many of these whites are long-lived and age-worthy, deepening in complexity for up to ten years or more.

With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. The village Bourgognes are lighter and leaner than their California counterparts, but with bright red fruit notes. The higher-end crus tend to be richly flavored with earthy mushroom notes and are capable of aging gracefully for decades.

  3. Famille Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Marie-Antoinette

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#36377

    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022
The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Marie-Antoinette comes mostly from Vergisson parcels on southerly-exposed vines, matured in stainless-steel on the fine lees for 12 months. It has a taut, minimal, steely bouquet that offers discrete saline/smoky scents. The palate is well balanced with grapefruit and touches of orange rind. Quite sapid with tropical hints towards the finish, though it is never an opulent Pouilly-Fuissé. It just expresses the warmth of the vintage. (Neal Martin)

  7. Goisot Bourgogne Aligoté

    2021 / 750 ml. | Item#55734

    VN87+87–89 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022
The 2021 Bourgogne Aligoté is raised entirely in stainless-steel. It has a perfumed bouquet with pressed white flowers commingling with linden and orange pith aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a linear finish that maybe just needs a bit more density and texture. Still, this has plenty of vitality and tension. 8. J.C Perraud Mâcon La Roche-Vineuse “Le Clos”

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#58345

    VN8585 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2022
The 2019 Mâcon La Roche-Vineuse Le Clos has a perfumed, floral bouquet, well-defined with yellow plum, white tea and pressed flower scents. Elegant. The palate is well balanced though just a bit too oak-driven on the mid-palate; the oak dominates the finish at the expense of terroir-expression. Tasted blind at the BIVB Maconnais tasting. (Neal Martin)

  14. Louis Jadot Savigny-Lès-Beaune La Dominode Premier Cru

    Domaine Louis Jadot
    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#55900

    RP92+92–94 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
Once again one of the highlights of the range, the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with notes of cassis, plums, dark chocolate, loamy soil and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it’s elegantly muscular, with fine depth and lively acids.
    VN90+90–92 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru was more closed than the Clos des Guettes on the nose, presenting darker fruit tinged with iodine and light iris petals. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, fine grip and edginess and a subtle white pepper and clove note toward the finish. This is a very well-crafted Savigny that should drink well for 10–15 years.

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#57875

    WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Salty, mineral freshness extends from nose to finish in this ripe, broad-shouldered wine. Red-cherry and plum flavors are fleshy and concentrated on the palate, lifted by a tang of cranberry acidity and a pleasantly leafy, herbal finish. Soft in tannins and kissed with sweet spice, the wine is ready now but will likely to hold through 2029. (Anna Lee C. Iijima)
