Burgundy

Burgundy

The best Burgundy wines are stately and elegant, with mystique and complexity that is distinctly feminine. These northeastern France appellations are famed for some of the greatest reds and whites in the world.

Although there is a growing awareness for the light, fresh Aligote, the reigning white of the Burgundy region is Chardonnay. From the soft, ripe Maconnais through the sophisticated, intricate whites from the Cote de Beaune to the crisp, mineral-driven Chablis, every appellation's production style is evident. Many of these whites are long-lived and age-worthy, deepening in complexity for up to ten years or more.

With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. The village Bourgognes are lighter and leaner than their California counterparts, but with bright red fruit notes. The higher-end crus tend to be richly flavored with earthy mushroom notes and are capable of aging gracefully for decades.

  9. Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuissé

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#64808

    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2021
A silky, lemon-infused white, with a crisp structure and mineral component underneath. Flashes of peach and apple add depth as this converges on the pastry-inflected finish. Drink now through 2025. 58,259 cases imported.
    RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Aug 2021
The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé (Maison Louis Jadot) is pretty, wafting from the glass with scents of white flowers, citrus zest and musky peach. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, it’s nicely concentrated, with bright acids and a saline finish.

  11. Domaine Joseph Voillot Pommard Vieilles Vignes

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#52870

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
As usual, the 2018 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a touch more muscular than the corresponding Volnay, but it’s no less refined this year, delivering aromas of plums, cherries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety, nicely concentrated palate.
    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
The 2018 Pommard Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet with iris petals and a touch of rose infusing the mixture of red and black fruit, a little earthy in style. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, fine structure and a tad more expressive than the Volnay at this precise time. Good length here with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed.

  12. Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages

    2019 / 375 ml. | Item#39273

    RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Oct 2020
Wafting from the glass with aromas of buttered peaches, ripe orchard fruit and flowers, the 2019 Mâcon-Villages (Maison Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, glossy and textural, with ripe but succulent acids to buttress its charming core of fruit. There’s a bit more depth and substance here than in its 2018 counterpart.
    SP8787 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2020
An accessible, fruity style, this white offers peach, melon and apple flavors, with a hint of flowers and vanilla. Drink now. 40,000 cases imported.

  15. Domaine Dujac Morey-Saint-Denis

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#50357

    VN88+88–90 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, which had not been racked, has a lifted black plum and red currant bouquet with just a touch of hoisin. The palate is medium-bodied with a strict, linear opening and a fine bead of acidity, but it feels clammed shut toward the finish at the moment. Give it a couple of years once in bottle.
    RP87+87–89 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Jan 2019
Dujac’s 2017 Morey-Saint-Denis Village is very pretty, wafting from the glass with notes of plums, red berries, rose petal, cinnamon and other warm spices. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, succulent and giving with a juicy core of fruit and a light framing of chalky tannins.
