Densely planted vines on a 4.5-acre parcel create this impressive, richly perfumed wine. It has structure and some solid tannins along with juicy black fruits. The wine is still young, and although drinkable now will be so much better starting from 2017.

Fresh and aromatic, with a bouquet of rose lining the raspberry and red plum core of this light-bodied red. Anise, tea and mineral accents give complexity to the finish, edged with supple tannins. Drink now through 2021. 378 cases made.

Vivid red. Primary red fruit and floral scents, along with suggestions of white pepper and smoky minerals. Shows very good focus and vivacity on the palate, offering bitter cherry and red currant flavors that deepen and become sweeter with air. Closes sappy and long, with smooth tannins sneaking in late to add shape and grip. This wine is quite a bit more civilized than the other two that I tried from this producer; the Brouilly Pisse-Ville might appeal to fans of old-school, rustic Beaujolais but it was just too leathery for me.

The 2015 Fleurie Grand-Pré has a vivid bouquet with red cherry and redcurrant aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, supple in the mouth with a caressing strawberry and red cherry finish that lingers. A bit of a temptress this Fleurie!

Deep ruby. An intensely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red and blue fruits and pungent flowers, and a spicy element slowly emerges. Juicy and penetrating, offering fresh back raspberry and boysenberry flavors and a suggestion of spicecake. Fine-grained tannins shape a very long, sweet finish that strongly echoes the floral and berry notes.

Vivid ruby. High-pitched red berry and spicecake scents show very good clarity and pick up a mineral overtone as the wine opens up. Juicy and lithe, offering intense strawberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. In a silky, open-knit style, finishing clean and bright and with just a hint of fine-grained tannins.

This is a perfumed wine that is soft, full of red cherry fruit and gentle tannins. It does have a dry core that gives the wine shape and there is plenty of juicy fruitiness at the end. The wine is made for the Hospices, a charity in Lyon.

The 2015 Beaujolais sees a little maturation in cement but is mostly raised in stainless steel and had been bottled in March. This comes from vines on limestone/clay soils. It offers pure and quite harmonious crushed strawberry and raspberry coulis aromas on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with satisfying raspberry and brambly red berry fruit notes, a noticeable saline tincture that develops towards the punchy and quite powerful finish. Very fine.
    VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2017
Lurid red. Vibrant cherry, blue fruit and succulent herb scents are sharpened by suggestions of white pepper and smoky minerals. Juicy and light on its feet, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors that put on weight with air. Classically Beaujolais in its expression of bitter dark fruits and herbs, showing very good energy and cut for the vintage. Closes taut and spicy, displaying repeating bitterness and firm mineral cut. There’s wonderful value here and the food-matching possibilities are pretty much limitless.

The 2015 Beaujolais Blanc, which comes from up to 50-year-old vines on silex soils, felt a little closed on the nose when I tasted it, offering light waxy aromas with pineapple and orange zest scents. The palate is balanced with a pleasant roundness on the entry, a subtle honeyed note that becomes more evident as the wine opens up, finishing with a touch of ginger on the aftertaste. Another very delicious and dare I say, Côte d’Or-like white Beaujolais.

Vivid red. Smoky, mineral-accented cherry, black raspberry and floral pastilles on the intensely perfumed nose, joined by a hint of spicecake as the wine opens up. Juicy and gently sweet, offering vibrant red and dark berry flavors and exotic anise and blood orange flourishes. Closes silky, sweet and very long, delivering resonating spiciness and gentle tannins that come in late. The blend of power and finesse here is pretty impressive.
