Golden Delicious apple and Bosc pear aromas let you know refreshment has arrived. This wine has a bit of body to accompany a crisp texture and slightly elevated acidity. Pear, apple butter and lemon flavors are all you need for fun. (Michael Alberty)

Elouan Pinot Noir

2018 / 1.5 L.

SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021
A toasty and zesty quaff, with jammy raspberry and spice flavors that finish with zip. Best after 2027. 87,505 cases made.
WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2020
The label speaks of sourcing from “prime vineyards on Oregon’s coast” though no such vineyards exist, the coast being subject to ocean-driven storms and weather. It’s almost jet-black in color, light in flavor, with suggestions of black cherries, new mowed grass, and plenty of tobacco and vanilla. (Paul Gregutt)

I like the crushed stone minerality here, alongside aromas of cherries, violets and cacao beans. It’s medium-bodied, firm and nicely framed. Excellent focus. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
WE8585 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2023
Smoked blackberries, orange cake and the trifecta of fennel, thyme and oregano aromas made for a good start. The flavors of blackcap raspberries and ginger was also nice. What acted as a distraction was the wine’s stringent tannins. This pinot with pucker power may require time or decanting. (Michael Alberty)

This is a steal for the way its savor and black cherry collide on the palate. It starts off with an herbal riff on cut-leaf tobacco. The tannins are firm and a touch furry, but the wine’s acids buoy the flavors into a bright burst on the finish.
JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/17/2023
The 2021 Pinot Noir Oregon is composed of 60% fruit from the Willamette Valley, 40% fruit from the Umqua Valley, and a bit from the Rogue Valley. It pours a transparent medium ruby and is forward with somewhat primary and juicy aromas of ripe red berries, crushed flowers, and a hint of forest spice. Easy-drinking and medium-bodied, it lifts cleanly off the palate and is straightforward, with a lot of charm for early drinking. Bottled under screwcap with 350,000 cases produced. (Audrey Frick)

Shimmering garnet. Expansive aromas of fresh red fruits, botanical herbs and baking spices take on smoky mineral and floral overtones as the wine opens up. Juicy and precise in the mouth, offering alluringly sweet raspberry preserve, candied rose and spicecake flavors that convey depth as well as vivacity. Finishes on a juicy red fruit note, with silky, polished tannins and excellent, floral-driven persistence.

The 2020 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve has a medium ruby color and gregarious aromas of cranberries, red cherries, dried herbs, woodsmoke and tea leaves. The palate is light-bodied, chalky and fresh with somewhat tart, delicate fruit and a slightly astringent, spicy finish. Drink it over the next 3–5 years. (Erin Brooks)

While this medium-bodied Pinot Noir offers mostly red raspberry and cherry aromas, there are fresh notes of lemon zest and shredded coconut in the background. Juicy acidity and plush tannins are the backdrop for flavors of Bing cherries, lavender and lemon verbena. (Michael Alberty)

Shop for Top Oregon Pinot Noirs and more

Oregon is most famous for its Pinot Noirs, the wine that put Oregon on the map. Thanks in part to this grape, the number of Oregon’s wineries increased from 5 in 1970 to 453 in 2009

The majority of Oregon wine production is centered in the Willamette Valley AVA, around and south of Portland. Other AVAs of consequence to the south are Red Hill Douglas County, Rogue Valley and Applegate Valley, and, in eastern Oregon, bordering Idaho, the Snake River Valley, with a more continental climate. Pinot Noir is, by far, the most planted and successful varietal, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Syrah.
