Brandborg Bench Lands Pinot Noir

2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 45655

WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2017
This good-value wine done in a light and lovely style offers flavors of red berries and cherry cola highlighted by toasted hazelnuts. A touch of café crème leads into a softly focused finish.
RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2016
The 2014 Bench Lands Pinot Noir comes from several vineyards and had been bottled for one month. It has attractive brambly red berry fruit on the nose, the 20% new oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth in the mouth with tart red cherry and red plum notes, a little savoury in the mouth with a gentle finish. Enjoy this easy-going Pinot over the next 4–5 years.

A toasty and zesty quaff, with jammy raspberry and spice flavors that finish with zip. Best after 2027. 87,505 cases made.
WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2020
The label speaks of sourcing from “prime vineyards on Oregon’s coast” though no such vineyards exist, the coast being subject to ocean-driven storms and weather. It’s almost jet-black in color, light in flavor, with suggestions of black cherries, new mowed grass, and plenty of tobacco and vanilla. (Paul Gregutt)

Averaen Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023
Cherry fans need to rally around this bottle. The wine’s sweet, black-cherry aroma is almost cassis like in its intensity. Notes of orange, pine needles and forest floor add interest, but from the backseat. The palate features a lighter cherry flavor—perhaps Bing or Rainier—with notes of thyme and seared steak. The wine feels fresh and lively in the mouth, with brilliant acidity. (Michael Alberty)

The boysenberry and citrus mix on the nose of this wine made me think of boysenberry lemonade, which I enjoy. Other aromas include violets and thyme. The lighter-bodied wine’s mouthfeel is velvety soft, with modest tannins and blackberry, strawberry and lemon grass flavors. (Michael Alberty)

This is a steal for the way its savor and black cherry collide on the palate. It starts off with an herbal riff on cut-leaf tobacco. The tannins are firm and a touch furry, but the wine’s acids buoy the flavors into a bright burst on the finish.

Shop for Top Oregon Pinot Noirs and more

Oregon is most famous for its Pinot Noirs, the wine that put Oregon on the map. Thanks in part to this grape, the number of Oregon’s wineries increased from 5 in 1970 to 453 in 2009

The majority of Oregon wine production is centered in the Willamette Valley AVA, around and south of Portland. Other AVAs of consequence to the south are Red Hill Douglas County, Rogue Valley and Applegate Valley, and, in eastern Oregon, bordering Idaho, the Snake River Valley, with a more continental climate. Pinot Noir is, by far, the most planted and successful varietal, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Syrah.
