When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Light and juicy, this glides along with a harmonious, fruit-forward mix of juicy green apple, lime sherbet and lemon meringue. Details of ginger, lemongrass and shortbread linger in the background. Drink now. 61,000 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select gives up intense cassis, stewed plums and cedar chest notes with hints of licorice and wild sage. Medium to full-bodied in the mouth, the palate has a taut, grainy texture supporting the muscular black fruits, finishing long and mineral tinged.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
Polished, fruit-driven style, with creamed plum and warm cassis notes coated in hints of black licorice. Finish is carried by fan-friendly, vanilla-accented toast flavor. Drink now through 2027. 2,359 cases made.

Very pretty depth with a tile and rock-like texture to this. Minerally. Redcurrant. Medium to full body. Juicy finish. Needs two or three years to soften and come together.
RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th May 2023
I think this is first time we’ve rated a Knights Valley Reserve ahead of the Private Reserve. Selected from rockier bits of the vineyards, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Knights Valley features aromas of black cherries and red raspberries, offering a vastly different and more interesting fruit profile than the regular Knights Valley bottling. Dark chocolate-mocha notes, vanilla and cedar bring additional complexity to the mix. This medium to full-bodied wine is ripe, plush and long on the finish, with two decades of deliciousness ahead of it. (Joe Czerwinski)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Reserve is a very beautiful wire in this vintage. Bright floral and mineral accents play off a core of intense, distinctly red-toned fruit. Best of all, the 2020 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. The strong savoriness of Knights Valley is not especially evident. I suspect that is mostly the function of a warm, dry growing season. Shows a singed mesquite note that melds with a core of gently steeped red and black cherry fruit, with a light zip of licorice on the finish. Drink now through 2024. 175,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Engagingly rich aromas of baked plum and stewed raspberries are amplified by baking spice and shaved wood notes on the nose of this bottling. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied while the texture shows ample grip, wrapping around flavors of roasted strawberry and minty licorice. (Matt Kettmann)
