Chappellet Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 55569

RP98+98+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. It was aged in 100% new French oak for 22 months. The alcohol weighed in at 14.5%. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with bold expressions of warm cassis, wild blueberries and black raspberries, plus hints of chocolate box, menthol, tapenade, smoked meats and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is bursting with vibrant black fruits, framed by fantastically ripe, fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and mineral laced.
JD9898 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Always one of top wines in a vintage, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is another gorgeous wine with a more plush, supple texture that hides solid underlying structure and tannins. Beautiful notes of blueberries, new leather, camphor, violets, and smoked tobacco all flow to a full-bodied, seamless, gorgeously textured beauty that’s very much in the style of the vintage. Possessing remarkable purity, flawless balance, and building tannins, give bottles 4–5 years of bottle age, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 25+ years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN96+96+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is bright, punchy and structured. Blackberry jam, grilled herbs, lavender, menthol and crushed rocks all come alive in the glass. This searingly tannic, mountain Cabernet needs a good deal of time to open, but when it does, it dazzles. Bright floral notes, blood orange and slightly redder tonalities of fruit develop over time. The Pritchard Hill is a wine for readers who can be patient.
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, January 27, 2021
Blue fruit with boysenberry and floral aromas. Cassis, too. It’s full-bodied, yet very tight and toned on the palate with fine tannins that are formed and polished. A classic wine. Give this three or four years to soften. Best after 2024.

So much graphite and dark fruit here with some iron and spice. Lead pencil, roses and light mint, too. Full-bodied and wonderfully seamless with dusty tannins and a lightly balsamic finish. Drinkable now, but better after 2025.
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
I was able to taste two wines from Grace Family, both made by the incredibly talented Helen Keplinger, who has been at this estate since 2014. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Blank offers a beautifully pure, elegant style in its darker currant and blueberry fruits as well as notes of iron, minty herbs, tobacco, and lead pencil. Soft, supple, medium to full-bodied, and as seamless as they come, drink this singular beauty any time over the coming 20 years. I love its mid-palate as well as its tannins. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
A nice burst of mulberry and loganberry fruit leads the way, with licorice, black tea and violet notes playing supporting roles. Sleek and refined through the finish, with sneaky depth. Drink now through 2033. 291 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it strides confidently out of the glass with notes of crushed blueberries, ripe, fresh blackberries and warm cassis plus hints of bay leaves, mossy tree bark and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black fruits, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with loads of mineral sparks. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is an attractive, mid-weight wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Dried cherry, tobacco, licorice, cedar and earthy notes all grace this expressive, understated Cabernet from Grgich Hills. (Antonio Galloni)

JD91+91+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is terrific and just classic Sonoma Cabernet. Lots of cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings and rocky, savory earth-like nuances all emerge from this spicy, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced Cabernet. It shows the fresh, focused style of the vintage, has wonderful purity, and enough tannins to warrant 2–3 years of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
This wine has strong layers of structure and tannin, bold swathes within an otherwise elegant, restrained style of graceful complexity. Plum, graham cracker, currant and leather combine in dense bolts of concentrated intensity and length. (Virginie Boone)

RP98+98+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jan 2021
A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Oakville Estate Proprietary Red Wine was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 55% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with flamboyant scents of candied violets, red roses, black raspberries and fragrant earth over a core of cassis, wild blueberries and Morello cherries with a waft of pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is an exercise in poise, featuring beautifully balanced velvety tannins and seamless freshness framing the opulent black and red berry layers, finishing very long and perfumed. 670 cases were made.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2022
This sports some richness, with warmed plum sauce and cassis mixed with a melted red licorice note, all while apple wood and sweet tobacco fill in from behind. Rich but focused, with nice grain and detail through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2023 through 2038. 669 cases made.

Always a smoking value that readers shouldn’t miss, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature sports a dense purple color to go with beautiful cassis and blueberry-like fruits as well as bouquet garni, spice, and obvious, rocky mineral-like aromas and flavors. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with notable structure and good acidity, it’s going to keep for two decades in cold cellars. It’s a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100. 18,000 cases. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Packs an alluring, winey feel, with a well of cassis and plum reduction laced with hints of cocoa, tobacco and singed cedar. Picks up a cast iron note on the finish, giving this just a bit of muscle as the fruit plays out. Best from 2023 through 2036. 18,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a terrific wine and a big overachiever in its price range. Black cherry, plum, mocha, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather lend tons of complexity to this bold, luscious Cabernet. This overt, upfront Cabernet offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec and 3% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps with open-knit notes of warm cassis and plum preserves, plus hints of tobacco leaf, bouquet garni and cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and crunchy with bags of bright fruit and a grainy texture, finishing lifted. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant black cherries, warm cassis, chocolate pie and blackberry preserves notes plus nuances of wild sage, forest floor and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is elegantly played and refreshing with velvety tannins and a long mineral-tinged finish.
JD95+95+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - January 31, 2020
The flagship is the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill, and this cuvée just about always represents the pinnacle of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. The 2017 is 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon and reveals a deep purple color as well a stunning bouquet of blue fruits, burning embers, dark chocolate, sage brush, and crushed rocks. It’s powerful, full-bodied, and concentrated, and the tannins clamp down on the finish enough to warrant hiding this beauty in the cellar for a solid 5–7 years. If drinking today, give it an hour or two in a decanter. It’s another stunning wine from this estate. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2020
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is a positively stellar wine in this challenging year. Crème de cassis, licorice, lavender, chocolate, spice and espresso all run through the 2017. This is an especially inky, flamboyant style for Chappellet, but all the elements come together very nicely.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2021
Ripe and well-proportioned, with loads of cassis, plum reduction and melted black licorice notes melding together, picking up graphite and apple wood accents through the muscular but defined finish. A late kick of fruit on the finish is matched by minerally cut. Best from 2023 through 2036. 2,000 cases made.

RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Calesa Vineyard takes some time to emerge from its shell, offering mineral-laced white peach, jasmine and salted almonds. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and expansive, with a sense of energy derived from its dichotomy of honeyed fruits, shimmery, rocky tones and bright acidity, and it finishes with extraordinary length. It’s approachable now but will continue to improve in bottle over the next 5+ years and hold for several more. 1,500 cases produced. (Erin Brooks)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2021
Richly spiced white fruit flavors feature biscuit notes midpalate, with hints of anise, followed by a plush, open-textured finish that shows light buttery accents. Drink now through 2023. 1,500 cases made. (Kim Marcus)
