The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Black plums, cloves, charred bark, sandalwood and bitter chocolate here. Tasty and spicy with a full body and tight-knit tannins. Nicely framed with a firm and tight finish. Drink from 2024. (James Suckling)

A richly textured wine, with super floral aromas of lilac and wild roses joining black cherries, cedar and pipe tobacco. Lush, concentrated blackberry and dark plum flavors glide over the palate. This Merlot is hedonistic and enjoyable. (Michael Alberty)

Vegan. 43% merlot, 23% cabernet sauvignon, 17% syrah, 7% malbec, 4% cabernet franc, 3% petit verdot, 1% souzao, 1% touriga and 1% tinta cao. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

Spiced plum, sandalwood, dried herbs, tobacco, and leather notes all emerge from the 2019 Red Mountain, a round, supple, nicely balanced, complex Red Mountain release. I like its balance, it has tons of character, and should keep for a solid decade. The blend is 43% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Syrah, 4% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec, and the rest a mix of other varieties. (Jeb Dunnuck)
