Heitz Cellar Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 / 750 ml.

Item#: 57804

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha’s Vineyard barely hints at eucalyptus on the nose, with much more emphasis given to black cherries and cassis. This is full-bodied and rich, nicely balancing richness and texture against linear shape and focus and picking up hints of blueberries and spice on the long, mouthwatering finish. With 112 barrels having been bottled, there’s a fair bit of this wine to go around, if one can afford it. (Joe Czerwinski)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
This throws off an overt and alluring mint aroma, while sweet bay leaf, violet, damson plum, red tea and steeped griotte notes all glide through together, carried by remarkably fine-grained tannins. Ends with a gentle echo of mint on the finish, while a subtle minerality chimes through as well. A stylish and suave wine, with plenty of charm now, but also pristine balance for cellaring. Best from 2022 through 2038. 2,500 cases made. (James Molesworth)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Tench Vineyard
2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 48501

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red EE Tench Vineyard is scented of pure plums and ripe blueberries with redcurrants and touches of lavender, roses, bay leaves and dusty earth. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, fine-grained, vibrant and refreshing, finishing long and perfumed. 1,403 cases produced.
VN94+94–97 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2018
Lifted aromatics give the 2016 Red Wine EE Tench Vineyard a dimension of breadth and expansiveness that is alluring. The red cherry, plum, mocha and spice flavors are racy in this dense, explosive wine. The EE is shaping up to be another gem from Russell Bevan.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2019
Offers a lavish feel, with waves of crushed plum, blackberry and açaí berry flavors rolling forth, infused liberally with dark licorice, sweet toast and fruitcake notes. A late tug of dark earth keeps this just honest enough. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2032. 1,403 cases made.

Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon | Rockpile Ridge Vineyard 2016 / 750 ml.

Rockpile Ridge Vineyard
2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 51241

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Dec 2019
“Sixty-five percent of the vines planted in Rockpile are Zinfandel,” says Clay Mauritson. “What’s gotten lost in that narrative is how unbelievable Cabernet Sauvignon is in Rockpile. It has a lot of similarities to places like Napa.” Deep ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Rockpile Cabernet Sauvignon Rockpile Ridge Vineyard is blended of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, aged 20 months in French oak. It has a nose with red and black cherries and currants, milk chocolate, star anise, cardamom, cedar and touches of minerals and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied, it’s very plush and spicy in the mouth with tons of baby fat fruit, segueing to mineral and licorice notions. It has a firm frame of chalky tannins and good freshness to lift the long, layered finish. Leave this in the cellar for another three to five years and drink it over the next 20+. 680 cases were made.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019
Blended with smaller amounts of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, this mountainous wine is rounded in weight and texture, with a soft fruity approach that is balanced and rewarding. Firm tannins surround a core of brooding black fruit, earth and anise that lingers long on the finish.

Both ripe and polished, this has a very appealing interplay of rather fine tannins and generous fruit. Then the full, supple tannins come through and move it in a drier direction that’s more compatible with the dining table. Drink or hold.

RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Proprietary Red Blend Family Reserve Generations is intensely scented of warm black and red currants, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote with nuances of chocolate mint, new leather, tilled soil and fallen leaves. Full-bodied with a taut frame of grainy tannins supporting the densely packed black fruit layers, it has a long lingering minty kick on the finish.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2020
Features a solid range blackberry paste, fig and plum notes, with cassis bush, bittersweet cocoa and licorice root accents. The solidly grippy finish leaves a hefty impression, but this will have fans. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2029. 2,400 cases made.

Reserved in style, with mint, tea and sandalwood aromas leading the way for a fine-grained core of damson plum and red currant coulis. A subtle savory edge winds through the finish, which lingers prettily. Drink now through 2034. 15,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Heitz’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is predominantly St. Helena fruit, but it includes grapes from other AVAs as well. With its cherry notes and some darker, more cassis-like nuances, hints of dried herbs and dusty earth, it’s pretty classic old-school Cabernet. Medium to full-bodied, it’s linear, silky and fine, avoiding any sense of jammy excess.

JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, September 21, 2022
Wow. Such a racy and exciting nose! This is quite agile and nimble, full of red and blue berries in the forefront, then complemented by spiced orange, earl grey, red plums, potpourri, savory plums and chocolate. Tense and elegant on the palate, which is all about succulent red berries, nuance and texture. Nothing redundant here. A great Napa cabernet sauvignon that has real definition. A beauty by all accounts! Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Originally a blend of single vineyards, including 50% of the volume to come out of Martha’s Vineyard, the 2017 Lot C-91 is now a home for borderline lots that don’t quite make the single-vineyard bottlings. Marked by notes of black cherries, cassis, restrained oak and a hint of dried herbs, this is full-bodied yet streamlined in shape, with a long, softly dusty finish. (Joe Czerwinski)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
A perfumy style, with damson plum, rooibos tea, sandalwood and mulled cherry aromas and flavors that glide through on a silky structure. Ends with light sanguine and savory threads. Drink now through 2032. 2,960 cases made. (James Molesworth)
