Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 60257

SP95+95–98 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2020
Youthfully balled up, but there’s a ton of gorgeous cassis, raspberry and plum fruit, all of it kept in check right now thanks to a bolt of iron as riveting as I’ve seen in this wine. Barrel samples are often easily impressive, but this is way more than that.—Non-blind Louis M. Martini vertical (July 2020). (James Molesworth)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Well-built, with a dense core of red and black currant reduction flavors held in check for now, while iron-tinged sweet tobacco, warm earth and singed apple wood notes hold sway. Packs a muscular, racy structure that drives underneath, so just give this a bit more time to fully meld. Rock-solid, though. Best from 2025 through 2040. 1,350 cases made. (James Molesworth)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, January 14, 2022
Aromas of currants, blackberries, vanilla, walnuts and cedar. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Plush, supple and textured with a deep core of dark fruit and spice. Vanilla, too. Rich and flavorful. Big, chewy wine. Try from 2023. (James Suckling)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Martini’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard has the site’s characteristic mint and herbal overtones, but it also offers deep cassis and plum notes. Full-bodied, ripe but firm, with typical Cabernet Sauvignon varietal austerity and reserve, framed by fine-grained, silky tannins that linger on the finish, it’s a classic example of Monte Rosso Cabernet. When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Freemark Abbey’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark, supple and inviting. Black cherry, plum, mocha and licorice give this open-knit Cabernet tons of up-front appeal. Silky tannins wrap around the juicy, inviting finish. The 2018 is attractive, but it is also a bit soft. I would prefer to drink it over the near and medium term.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
There are an impressive 20,000 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Merlot, 2% each Malbec and Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged in 40% new oak. About half of the fruit is sourced from estate (organically grown) vineyards, while the balance is purchased. Lovely herb-inflected cassis and hints of ripe cherries appear on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, silky and fine, but with some substance and concentration, finishing with soft, dusty tannins. Good concentration, balance, length. (Joe Czerwinski)

There are roughly 25,000 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, which is sourced from all over the valley. Certainly a beautiful wine worth seeking out (and it should be easy to find), it has ample ripe cherry and cassis fruits as well as spicy oak and tobacco nuances. This impeccably made, medium-bodied, elegant Cabernet will shine for a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
Blended with small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is an approachable, well-made appellation wine that shows a backbone of structure and power. Supple tannins wrap around a thick midpalate of black and red currant, cassis and toasted oak, finishing in clove and cedar. (Virginie Boone)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is terrific and just classic Sonoma Cabernet. Lots of cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings and rocky, savory earth-like nuances all emerge from this spicy, medium-bodied, beautifully balanced Cabernet. It shows the fresh, focused style of the vintage, has wonderful purity, and enough tannins to warrant 2–3 years of bottle age. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
This wine has strong layers of structure and tannin, bold swathes within an otherwise elegant, restrained style of graceful complexity. Plum, graham cracker, currant and leather combine in dense bolts of concentrated intensity and length. (Virginie Boone)

A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate has a deep garnet-purple color and flamboyant notes of stewed black and red plums, boysenberries and black currant cordial plus touches of bay leaves, tilled loam, charcoal and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with tightly knit black fruit and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Including 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate comes from a rocky site in St. Helena and spent 20 months in French oak. It’s another gorgeously balanced, elegant, yet concentrated wine from this team that has classic notes of dark currants, blackberries, savory herbs, chocolate, and lead pencil. Building nicely with time in the glass, it’s full-bodied and has a layered, elegant texture, plenty of tannins, and a great finish, all making for a captivating Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Give bottles 4–5 years if possible, and it’s going to evolve for 25+ years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Estate is a real head-turner. Inky and flamboyant to its core, the Aida jumps out of the glass. Inky dark fruit, blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, cloves and leather are all kicked up a few notches. The Aida is a rich, hedonistic Cabernet. I would give it a few years to shed some baby fat. In a word: impressive. (Antonio Galloni)

Martini’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes from a multitude of Gallo-owned properties and includes about one-fourth purchased fruit. Marked by notes of almost peppery-spicy oak and ripe cassis, it’s full-bodied, ripe and generous, still not that rich or textured but a clear step up from Martini’s Sonoma County Cabernet, with a long, mouthwatering finish.
