When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Flora Springs Trilogy 2018 / 750 ml.

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 47682

The 2018 Red Blend Trilogy checks in as 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot. Despite the price point, it’s closest in style to the Flora’s Legacy cuvée and has a seamless, elegant texture that just glides across the palate. Giving up lots of red and black currants, flowery incense, medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and a juicy, seamless, impossible to resist personality, it’s ideal for drinking over the coming 10–12 years. The 2018 Asterisk is so impressive. It offers up copious dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, menthol and spice, all in a forward, lush style that offers tons of immediacy and appeal. Sloan’s Asterisk shows just how alluring the vintage is. The 2018 is the best Asterisk I have tasted. Frankly, it is better than some estates’ top wines. (Antonio Galloni)

JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, March 5, 2021
A succulent, juicy young red with plum, dark berry and some tile and bark undertones. It’s full-bodied with layers of pure fruit and fine tannins. Lightly chewy at the end of the palate with a savory and fruity finish. Better after 2024.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021
Alluring, with melted red licorice draped over a core of lush cassis and plum compote notes. An apple wood edge is nicely inlaid on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 620 cases made.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Mar 2021
The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley opens with wonderfully pure notions of ripe blueberries, cassis and fresh black cherries, plus hints of dried mint, pencil shavings and cinnamon stick. The medium to full-bodied palate is juicy and plush with just enough freshness and a fruity finish. 620 cases were made.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is soft, open-knit and fruity, all of which make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Ripe dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice and new leather open nicely in the glass.

WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021
Blended with 13% Merlot and smaller amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is a focused and youthfully grippy wine, showing a fervor of succulent red- and black-currant and licorice. Thick, rich and intensely structured, it possesses a mineral-like earthiness of crushed rock and enduring structure.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap District) is another terrific wine in this range. Inky blue fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather all jump out of the glass. Bright acids give the 2018 striking energy that drives through to the long, beautifully persistent finish. Hints of mocha, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco linger. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th Nov 2020
Composed of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District charges out of the gate with exuberant scents of boysenberries, blackcurrant cordial and warm black plums plus touches of bay leaves, damp soil, pencil shavings and sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate is bold, expressive and open for business with bags of juicy black fruit flavors and a velvety texture, finishing with an earthy kick and a burst of freshness. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
Readers looking for a classic Cabernet Sauvignon that demonstrates the style of this great vintage should check out the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Cliff Lede Vineyards. Based on 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and the balance Malbec and Cabernet Franc, it reveals a deep purple color as well as a classic nose of cassis, blueberries, toasted spices, dried tobacco, and chocolate. Showing the vintage’s style on the palate with its medium to full-bodied richness and elegant seamless style, it can be drunk today or cellared for 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville) is fabulous. Moreover, it shows the important strides that have been made here in recent years. A wine of depth as well as energy, the Oakville Cabernet is both complete and absolutely delicious. Time brings out a whole range of leather, spice and chocolate notes to play off a core of intense, dark-fleshed fruit. I would prefer to cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. In a word: impressive. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022
Shows intense raspberry and black currant fruit flavors with a good racy edge to match their concentration, while lively anise, black tea and savory details fill in throughout. This also has a nice mineral thread on the finish, which extends nicely as the fruit lingers. Best from 2023 through 2035. 24,500 cases made.
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 5, 2021
Lots of dark chocolate, blackberries, blackcurrants, tar and dark spices on the nose. Violets and licorice, too. Medium-to full-bodied, dark and spicy with medium tannins. Drink after 2022.
