Zuccardi Q Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 44101

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, January 20, 2022
Plenty of blackcurrant and iodine aromas with some cassis-bush undertones. Full-bodied with juicy fruit and a pure, fruity finish. Very clear and manicured on the palate. Firm yet integrated tannins. Hints of wet earth to the currant character. Better after 2023. (James Suckling)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
I found more freshness in the 2019 Q Cabernet Sauvignon than in the 2018 I also tasted next to it. This is produced with grapes from Gualtallary and La Consulta, combining structure from Gualtallary and juiciness from La Consulta. Cabernet behaves better in cooler years like this 2020, and the wine matured in a combination of 225- and- 500-liter oak barrels. It’s medium to full-bodied and has the telltale fine tannins from the grape and a chalky finish. 87,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Region / Mendoza

View more wines from Mendoza

Mendoza is Argentina's largest wine region, and produces a majority of the Argentine wines on the market. Much of the region lies in the foothills of the Andes mountains, and as result Mendoza vineyards are typically located at higher altitudes than most. Mendoza is the epicenter of the Malbec craze that has taken the wine world by storm in recent years, but also produces great examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and other grapes.

Country / Argentina

View more wines from Argentina

Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.

Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.

Lots of spice and hints of dried herbs to the currant and berry aromas. Medium to full body. Firm, lightly chewy tannins and a balanced finish. Drink or hold.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
A majority Cabernet Sauvignon with 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley that spent 12 months in French barrels, resulting in a degree of complexity. The nose offers black currant, blueberry and pepper and a hint of pyrazine, along with sandalwood and incense notes. Juicy with fine, firm tannins that fill up the mouth before the flavorsome finish. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
As with other wines, the 2019 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon feels notably fresher and more vibrant than the wine from the warmer 2020 vintage. In 2019, it was a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that felt very integrated, with the grapes complementing each other. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate alcohol and notable freshness. The tannins are fine-grained, and the finish is clean, long and fresh. 360,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Blueberries, violets, dried licorice and graphite on the nose. Fresh, medium-to full-bodied palate, showing chalky acidity and tannins. Really precise and long. Drink or hold.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2022
A combination of black and red fruit, with hints of thyme and oak, enhance the aromatic bouquet of this wine. Supple tannins provide a good structure to bright fruit flavors. Light notes of dried herb add complexity to this vibrant, good-value wine. (Jesica Vargas)

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
Fresh black cherries and blueberries with some violets and dried herbs. A medium-to full-bodied malbec that is all about primary fruit and some raw spice. Not a flattering wine, but rather pure and nervy with fresh, linear acidity and calculated tannins. Drink or hold.

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021
The 2019 Polígonos Paraje Altamira Malbec is superb. It comes from vines at 1,100 meters in altitude and is somewhere between San Pablo (the lightest) and Gualtallary (the most structured). There’s a little more ripeness here, and there are red and blue fruits and less herbal notes. In a way, it’s a more classical Malbec, less showy in the nose but with a very interesting palate, juicy and very sapid, almost salty. 19,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2020
This Malbec hails from Paraje Altamira and was fermented and aged in concrete. A wine defined by its terroir, it is bright purple in hue while the pure, floaty, somewhat timid aromas feature country herbs, violets and lavender. In the mouth, it is tightly packed and austere, sticking close to its chalky path all the way to the end, which offers saline notes and marked lightness. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2020 / 750 ml.

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 54531

JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 8, 2021
Lots of purple fruit with blackberry and blueberry aromas, as well as cement and stone. Floral undertones, such as poppies. Medium to full body with firm tannins and a savory finish. Hints of dried, clove-like spice. No wood here. Drink now or hold.
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2020 Concreto Malbec also impressed me, because it comes from the warmest and most challenging vintage of recent years, yet the wine keeps its poise and depth. This is a selection from shallow, stony and calcareous soils from Altamira, so the vines are quite sensitive to heat. If you encounter it on its own, it will feel fresh and superb; the problem is tasting it next to the 2021, which is what I did, because there is an extra degree of freshness, precision and clarity in the 2021, one of the finest vintages for this wine so far. This fermented with full clusters that were foot trodden to prevent carbonic maceration and had a short maceration to get a fine-boned and elegant wine, with an even shorter maceration in warmer years. This is a wine that always transcends the price point. 43,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 Malbec Concreto from Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley was fermented in whole bunches and aged in concrete. A bright, rich purple in the glass. The initially reductive nose delivers pure fruit flavors of ripe plum and blackberry before opening out into sweet and sour cherry with hints of herbs. Makes a broad entrance before the mild flow and juicy freshness, while the variety’s sweet tannins join forces with the gentle chalk to produce a pleasant, compact feel. The warm year accounts for a good measure of the structure and volume, resulting in a long-lasting, juicy and flavorful wine. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2019 Tito Zuccardi is a co-fermentation of approximately 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc and comes from the same plot in Altamira every year. They have increased the presence of concrete and lowered the oak here, some 30% in 500-liter oak barrels. I tasted this next to the 2020 and 2021, and you can see the difference between the three years. 2019 is the freshest and most elegant of the three; it has notes of herbs and spices and fine-grained tannins and is medium to full-bodied, with the fluid character of the vintage. It follows the line of the already impressive 2018 that I tasted last time and liked very much. 21,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)
