Zuccardi Q Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 44101

JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, March 27, 2023
A juicy and pretty full-bodied cabernet sauvignon with plenty of currants and fresh herbs. The juicy palate highlights the freshness of the fruit. Tannins are tight and fine-grained. Succulent in the finish. A wine to drink now or hold. (Zekun Shuai)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2021 Q Cabernet Sauvignon was produced with grapes from Altamira and Gualtallary (in different parts), always fermented with 10% to 15% Malbec to add juiciness. So, it has the ripe but herbal side and the floral and berry notes with chalky tannins and the fine-grained varietal character. It’s balanced, ripe without excess at 14% alcohol and has a long, dry and serious finish. They also use 500-liter barrels to age the Cabernet Sauvignon. 125,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Where It's From

Region / Mendoza

View more wines from Mendoza

Mendoza is Argentina's largest wine region, and produces a majority of the Argentine wines on the market. Much of the region lies in the foothills of the Andes mountains, and as result Mendoza vineyards are typically located at higher altitudes than most. Mendoza is the epicenter of the Malbec craze that has taken the wine world by storm in recent years, but also produces great examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and other grapes.

Country / Argentina

View more wines from Argentina

Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.

Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.

Fresh black cherries and blueberries with some violets and dried herbs. A medium-to full-bodied malbec that is all about primary fruit and some raw spice. Not a flattering wine, but rather pure and nervy with fresh, linear acidity and calculated tannins. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Polígonos Paraje Altamira Malbec is superb. It comes from vines at 1,100 meters in altitude and is somewhere between San Pablo (the lightest) and Gualtallary (the most structured). There’s a little more ripeness here, and there are red and blue fruits and less herbal notes. In a way, it’s a more classical Malbec, less showy in the nose but with a very interesting palate, juicy and very sapid, almost salty. 19,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)

This Malbec hails from Paraje Altamira and was fermented and aged in concrete. A wine defined by its terroir, it is bright purple in hue while the pure, floaty, somewhat timid aromas feature country herbs, violets and lavender. In the mouth, it is tightly packed and austere, sticking close to its chalky path all the way to the end, which offers saline notes and marked lightness. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2020 / 750 ml.

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 54531

JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 8, 2021
Lots of purple fruit with blackberry and blueberry aromas, as well as cement and stone. Floral undertones, such as poppies. Medium to full body with firm tannins and a savory finish. Hints of dried, clove-like spice. No wood here. Drink now or hold.
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2020 Concreto Malbec also impressed me, because it comes from the warmest and most challenging vintage of recent years, yet the wine keeps its poise and depth. This is a selection from shallow, stony and calcareous soils from Altamira, so the vines are quite sensitive to heat. If you encounter it on its own, it will feel fresh and superb; the problem is tasting it next to the 2021, which is what I did, because there is an extra degree of freshness, precision and clarity in the 2021, one of the finest vintages for this wine so far. This fermented with full clusters that were foot trodden to prevent carbonic maceration and had a short maceration to get a fine-boned and elegant wine, with an even shorter maceration in warmer years. This is a wine that always transcends the price point. 43,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2020 Malbec Concreto from Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley was fermented in whole bunches and aged in concrete. A bright, rich purple in the glass. The initially reductive nose delivers pure fruit flavors of ripe plum and blackberry before opening out into sweet and sour cherry with hints of herbs. Makes a broad entrance before the mild flow and juicy freshness, while the variety’s sweet tannins join forces with the gentle chalk to produce a pleasant, compact feel. The warm year accounts for a good measure of the structure and volume, resulting in a long-lasting, juicy and flavorful wine. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2019 Tito Zuccardi is a co-fermentation of approximately 85% Malbec and 15% Cabernet Franc and comes from the same plot in Altamira every year. They have increased the presence of concrete and lowered the oak here, some 30% in 500-liter oak barrels. I tasted this next to the 2020 and 2021, and you can see the difference between the three years. 2019 is the freshest and most elegant of the three; it has notes of herbs and spices and fine-grained tannins and is medium to full-bodied, with the fluid character of the vintage. It follows the line of the already impressive 2018 that I tasted last time and liked very much. 21,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Jose Zuccardi Malbec 2016 / 750 ml.

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 56863

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
The 2016 José Zuccardi was produced with grapes (90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) from Altamira and Gualtallary in the Valle de Uco. This is the continuation of the old Z bottling, but here the wine is aged mostly in 2,500-liter oak vats rather than in smaller barriques. There are herbal notes reminiscent of green tea leaves, spices and berries. The palate is serious and has chalky tannins, as they select grapes from places in the Valle de Uco that have limestone soils. It seems like they have found the way ahead for this wine in 2016; it’s fine, precise and elegant. 40,000 bottles were filled in August 2018.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2020
Explosively fruity aromas and flavors of blackberry, dark cherry and plum tart are creamy and filled with rich savory and cooking spice accents. Powerfully structured, showing dark chocolate and mocha on the finish, with hints of dried mint. Drink now through 2025. 5,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported. (Kim Marcus)

Zuccardi Q Malbec 2021 / 750 ml.

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 41359

WS9393 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/22
A selection from vineyards in Vista Flores and La Consulta, this wine is fun and zesty, focusing on malbec’s fresher side with wild blueberry flavors and violet scents. The snappy herbal pop in the tannins suggest vertically-integrated complexity, from purposeful harvest to Zuccardi’s light-handed vinification.
RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2021 Q Malbec comes from Altamira and Chacayes and was made with a significant part of full clusters (especially Altamira) and aged mostly in concrete to keep that sense of purity. It has notes of some blue fruit, aromatic herbs and a citrus twist, reminiscent of green tea. It is floral, expressive, perfumed and fine-boned, with a medium-bodied palate where the tannins are fine and there’s some grip. 500,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022. The varietal 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon has textbook aromas and flavors of blackberries, herbs and spices combined in a neat way. It’s medium-bodied, balanced and fresh, with a serious, dry finish. (Luis Gutiérrez)
