Where It's From

Region / Piedmont

View more wines from Piedmont

Piedmont, a wine region on the edge of the Italian Alps in northwest Italy, produces two of Italy's most famous red wines, Barolo and Barbaresco. Both of these wines are made from the Nebbiolo grape, though there are other notable grapes used in the region such as Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato and Arneis on the white wine side. Vermouth also hails from Piedmont.

Country / Italy

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Pecchenino San Luigi Dogliani

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 33292

VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2020 Dogliani San Luigi is fruity, open knit and delicious, with plenty of red cherry/plum fruit character. Bright floral notes perk up the finish. (Antonio Galloni)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
Tightly wound, displaying cherry, blackberry, iron and wild herb flavors. Though grippy, the tannins are well-integrated and this should open nicely in 6 months to a year. Best from 2022 through 2026. 7,500 cases made, 4,800 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
This is a classic newbie Dolcetto with raw and tangy sensations of fresh-off-the-tree cherries and forest berries. Dolcetto is loved locally in Piedmont for its ability to pair with appetizers or informal foods served outdoors by the barbecue. The Pecchenino 2020 Dogliani San Luigi is exceptionally bright, exuberant and so much fun. (Monica Larner)
