Tardieu-Laurent Les Becs Fins 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 54520

JD90+90–92 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/14/2020
A similar deep purple/red, the 2019 Cotes Du Rhone Les Becs Fins is another expressive, complex, outstanding wine from this estate. Black raspberries, saddle leather, peppery garrigue, and sandalwood emerge from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, balanced 2019 that has silky tannins and loads of character. It too is ideal for enjoying over the coming 5–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Solid, this red has a fleshy, juicy feel, with anise-laced plum and blackberry pâte de fruit notes, backed by a graphite edge on the lightly toasted finish. Drink now through 2024. 5,000 cases made, 200 cases imported.

France's picturesque Rhone Valley produces wines just as beautiful as its landscapes. Located in Southern France, the Rhone is divided into two distinct sub-regions, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone. In the Northern Rhone, you'll find red wines produced predominantly with the Syrah grape, which oftentimes take a few years to mature before reaching their peak. Meanwhile, there are a wide array of red grapes used to produce wines in the Southern Rhone, including Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre (which together produce a blend known as GSM). The most famous red wine coming out of the Southern Rhone is the red blend, Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Delivers a nice saturated feel without being heavy, letting cherry and plum paste notes unfurl slowly, along with violet, licorice root and warm humus accents, which all blossom steadily through the savory finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2027. 6,800 cases made, 1,250 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Looking at the reds, the 2019 Vinsobres is unquestionably outstanding and has lots of Syrah character in its dark, meaty fruits, peppery herb, violet, and chalky mineral-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, nicely textured, and balanced, it has plenty of structure and will keep for 8–10 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Dark and winey in profile, with steeped plum and blackberry fruit flavors leading the way, while black tea and mineral accents fill in behind them. Tobacco and garrigue accents dot the finish for added range and length. Really solid. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2022 through 2035. 4,450 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Deep, ruminating layers of black plum and cherry confiture are lifted by tangs of crushed salt and stone in this bright, fresh-fruited blend of Grenache and Syrah. It’s mouthfilling and rich but maintains a thrilling zestiness, too. Fringed by fine-grained, lingering tannins, it’s at peak now but should maintain vibrantly through 2027 at least.

Ripe, sleek and captivating for its bright and forward display of cassis, cherry paste and boysenberry compote flavors. The finish is lined with red licorice and mulling spice accents, featuring a flash of roasted apple wood. This is for fans of the modern style. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, Terret, Picpoul, Muscardin, Picardan, Bourboulenc, Clairette and Roussanne. Drink now through 2034. 16,666 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

The 2021 Côtes Du Rhône Les Becs Fins Blanc offers lots of white peach, honeyed flowers, and apple blossom-like nuances in a medium-bodied, supple, fruit-forward, yet incredibly pure and balanced package. It’s a terrific white well worth seeking out. I’d drink bottles over the coming year or two, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it keep longer either. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A tasty, friendly white, with honeysuckle, creamed pear, quince and warm ginger flavors that are broad and open. Reveals zesty spice and quinine bitter notes, which make for a lively finish. Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Clairette. Drink now. (Alison Napjus)

An up-front, pretty version of this cuvée that leads with its fruit, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes Blanc offers lots of honeyed pineapple, white flowers, quince, and subtle toasty notes to go with medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It shows some classic bitter almond and minerality with time in the glass and has a great texture, good overall freshness, and a great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2021
There’s a flashy shortbread aromatic leading off here, but this stays bright and lively thanks to well-defined yellow apple and mirabelle notes. Verbena and quinine underscore the finish, adding focus and length. Delicious. Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and Picpoul. Drink now through 2022. 500 cases made, 50 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Mouthfilling, with a delicious gush of warmed blackberry and boysenberry compote flavors backed by licorice, bramble and sweet tapenade notes, which contrast with the fruit nicely. Features a nice buried iron spine on the finish. Best from 2024 through 2038. 500 cases made, 25 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

The 2019 Côte Rôtie Vieilles Vignes offers slightly more dark fruit and minerality as well as a more concentrated yet backward style on the palate. Full-bodied and structured, with terrific purity, it’s going to require more bottle age than the base and, but it should have two-plus decades of longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Also pure Southern Rhône goodness, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes has classy notes of red and blue fruits, candied orange, flowers, peppery garrigue, and loads of Asian spices. Beautifully textured, silky, and elegant on the palate, it has wonderful tannins, a notable sense of freshness, and a great, great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)
