Larkmead Firebelle 2014 / 750 ml.

Item#: 23435

VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
The 2014 Firebelle, Larkmead's Merlot-based wine, is terrific. Succulent black cherry, lavender, mint and dark spices infuse this pliant, creamy wine. Expressive savory and mineral-infused notes punctuate the finish. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to like and look forward to.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
A blend of 72% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2014 Firebelle finished at 14.9% alcohol. It is a beautifully rich, chocolaty wine with notes of savory spices, black cherries and mulberries, some fudge and coffee bean. It has medium to full body, outstanding purity, concentration and length. It was aged in 66% new French oak for 19 months prior to bottling. Drink it over the next 15–20 years.
VN92+92–95 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015
A precise, aromatically lifted wine, the 2014 Firebelle boasts striking finesse and overall delineation. Hints of lavender, spice and mint meld into a core of super-expressive dark red and bluish fruits. Here, too, the comparison with the 2013 is telling. There is plenty of potential, that much is clear.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 28, 2017
Juicy, with graphite and herbal shadings to the dried red fruit and black olive flavors. Muscular tannins and forest floor notes show on the finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,413 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

From the Producer

Of all our newly released wines, the Firebelle has by far the most inviting aromatic profile. Burnt matchstick gives way to plum skin and accents the wine’s ripe, red, fleshy core. Further investigation reveals scents of flowers, a touch of spice, some clove and sassafras bark that linger in the glass, even after the wine is consumed. In the mouth, the Merlot dominates the supple core of this wine, but—as with the ever-shifting aromatics—the palate is similarly changeable: nimble and ethereal with one sip, smooth and charming the next. The young vine Cabernet that makes up a quarter of the blend adds to the red fruit tones and makes for a bright, fresh finish.

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
The 2014 La Muse (2,800 cases ) is a legendary effort. The wine offers an opaque purple color and a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberry, incense, Asian spice, cocoa, plum, and a touch of chocolate and barrique. On the palate, more cassis and blackberry come to the forefront. The wine is unctuous, with adequate acidity and a stunning energy underneath the massive fruit and body. This is a spectacularly fragrant and, at the same time, dense wine, with enough structure (somewhat surprising in this vintage) to last 35–45+ years. The final blend was 88% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
A huge, opulent wine, the 2014 La Muse wraps around the palate with tons of super-ripe dark red fruit, chocolate, spice and menthol. La Muse often shuts down after bottling, but the 2014 is still remarkably intense and voluptuous, with soft contours, silky tannins and exceptional balance. The purity of the flavors here is remarkable.

2014 / 750 ml.

JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 5, 2017
Blueberries and blackberries with hints of lavender and fresh mushroom. Full body, wonderful depth and resounding intensity. Plenty of asphalt and tar. Hot stones. Gorgeous ripe and fine tannins. Great depth. Drink or hold. September 2017 release.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
The “Black Label” wines include the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Olmo, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the clone of Cabernet that is also called Eisele, This wine spent 20 months in 62% new French oak A magnificent wine by any standard of measurement, with notes of scorched earth, lead pencil shavings, charcoal embers, and blackberry and cassis fruit, this dense purple wine has undeniable minerality, a beautiful, full-bodied texture and a voluptuous finish. Drink it over the next 25 years.
VN92+92–95 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Olmo is holding back quite a bit of its potential. Dark cherry, smoke, licorice, tar and menthol give the Dr. Olmo much of its brooding personality. The tannins are quite firm, but that should be less of an issue as the wine won’t be released for about a year.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2017
A dense, sturdy effort, chewy and rough around the edges, making for a challenging entry, with a wall of oak and earthy tannins. Needs time. Best from 2021 through 2032. 1,418 cases made.

Larkmead LMV Salon 2015 / 750 ml.

2015 / 750 ml.

Item #: 47216

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2018
A dense, powerful wine, the 2015 LMV Salon exudes class. A rush of black cherry, plum, chocolate, spice and leather fills out the wine’s ample frame effortlessly. The 2015 is a big, rich wine that needs time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place. This is a decidedly virile, imposing wine, but time in the glass bring out the wine’s aromatic dimension, which is heavily marked by the 40% Cabernet Franc in the blend.
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2017
Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Lmv Salon Proprietary Red has an earthy, meaty, gamy nose with a crème de cassis and preserved plums core backed up by Christmas cake and new leather with a medicinal waft. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with firm, chewy tannins and a good core of fruit, it’s just a bit astringent and closed at this youthful stage.

This is structured, complex, dense and lengthy, a celebration of dark berry fruit that is layered and velvety smooth on the palate. Tobacco, oak and dried herb accent it with ease, complementing and contrasting in myriad ways and landing on a sophisticated finish. (Virginie Boone)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous introduction to the vintage at Larkmead. Pliant and supple, the Cabernet offers tons of near term appeal. Sweet red cherry, red plum, pomegranate, spice and blood orange infuse the 2019 with layers of nuance and complexity. Best of all the 2019 will drink well with minimal cellaring. (Antonio Galloni)
RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (White Label) features fragrant notes of red and black plums, lavender and mossy tree bark, over a core of cassis and boysenberries. The medium to full-bodied palate is refreshing and vibrant, delivering an approachable texture and herbal lift on the finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022

Item #: 44846

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Oct 2016
Even more prodigious is the 2014 LMV Salon. Composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc from the sandy Bale Loam soils of the 110 acres Larkmead possesses, it is a bigger boy at 14.9% alcohol but shows lots of crushed rock and wet gravel minerality, a beautiful, cedary, blackcurrant nose with notes of forest floor, allspice and soy, with more blackberry on the palate as well as some savory herbs and spice. Hints of licorice also make an appearance in this broad, fleshy, juicy and succulent style of wine meant for drinking now and over the next 20 years.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2016
The 2014 LMV Salon offers lovely depth and intensity. Today, the Cabernet Franc is really expressive, not just in its signature aromatics, but in its mid-weight, refined feel. The 2014 was much more expressive last year. Then again, it was just bottled. Red stone fruit, mint, rose petal, mocha and raspberry jam open up nicely, while beams of tannin give the wine its energetic feel.
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 5, 2017
Lots of blueberry, licorice and gun-powder aromas follow through to medium to full body, fine tannins and a savory finish. Lovely balance and fruitiness. Lovely now. Tangy minerality. Drink and enjoy.
VN93+93–96 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2015
Larkmead’s 2014 LMV Salon is sweet, nuanced and totally sexy. Pliant and super-expressive, even at this early stage, the 2014 is shaping up to be a beauty. Today, the fruit is quite primary, with plenty of sweet red cherry and plum nuances to match its supple personality.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2017
Strong oak is the dominant aroma, flavor and texture, overshadowing the rich blackberry, plum, currant and anise flavors for now. Ends long, pure and chewy. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2018 through 2028. 804 cases made. (James Laube)

Intense aromas of blackberry, tar and wet earth follow through to a full body, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Bark and cigar box undertones. A solid and powerful red yet balanced and poised. Give it two or three years of bottle age after release to soften.

This merlot-based red is really exciting with dark berries, dark chocolate and bark. Full-bodied, dense and layered. So serious and exciting. Merlot is great here. Drink in 2020.
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2018
This blends 71% Merlot with 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. Earthy, it evokes wild truffle and fresh compost, with highlighted flavors of dark plum and cherry. Its soft silky texture is inviting and a complement to the gritty backbone of tannins, which though in check, are plenty powerful.
