Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru 2011 / 750 ml.

Item#: 51328

ST9191 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Mar/Apr 2014
Good bright red. Ripe raspberry and graphite aromas are perked up by a whiff of blood orange. Supple, sappy and intense, with an exotic suggestion of spun sugar leavened by a slightly herbal quality that carries through to the saline, firm finish. Very fresh wine, particularly in light of its high 3.8 pH, and in need of a good four or five years of cellaring.

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

VN91+91–93 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses Ile de Vergelesses 1er Cru comes from an east-facing hill equally balanced between clay and limestone, averaging 45-year-old vines. (It was supposed to be classified Grand Cru in 1936 but was denied because it can suffer in cooler vintages.) The bouquet is fresh and detailed, featuring mineral-rich dark berry fruit laced with bay leaf and black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This comes replete with crunchy red berry fruit laced with cracked black pepper and an insistent grip toward the almost Morey-like finish. A very sophisticated Ile de Vergelesses that should give 12 to 15 years of drinking pleasure.
RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Jan 2019
Deeper, more multidimensional and more complete than the Les Vergelesses, the 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses offers up scents of sweet berries, forest floor, wild plums and grilled meats. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a quiet presence and impressive length. It’s the king of the premiers crus from Chandon de Briailles this year.
