When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, April 8, 2024
A medium-bodied, supple and delicate pinot noir with aromas of cranberries, cherries, white pepper and fine herbs. Succulent, fruit-driven and crunchy, with a delicious finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2024
Vibrant ruby in color, this wine erupts from the glass with aromas of sweet cinnamon, cola and cherry. There is a charming delicacy here, with flavors of dried rose petal, cherry and berry pie filling on a midweight palate. A captivating dance between the snappy tannin structure and the lively acidity of this wine lead to a very pleasurable finish. (Tom Capo)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2024
Broad and languid in feel, with sous-bois, black tea and singed mesquite notes hanging over a core of gently mulled red and black cherry fruit through the silky, elegant finish. This is delicious but just a bit shy on energy. Drink now through 2027. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 26,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)

WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2024
This is a bold Pinot Noir, ideal for the steakhouse. Aromas of roasted boysenberry, rose and violet lead from the nose into a ripe palate of lush black cherry, cocoa and caramel flavors. The wine retains some freshness while veering toward sweetness. (Matt Kettmann)
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 26, 2024
A lush, hyperripe style, with plum and blackberry jam flavors rolling through in tandem with melted licorice and sweet spices. Fairly obvious in style, but will have fans for the overt fruit display. Drink now through 2025. 15,330 cases made. (James Molesworth)
